Par- ticipants in the competition are evaluated on the character (mean- ing whether the cocktail is tropical, fruity, frozen, sweet, sour, spicy, etc.), presentation, flavour, aroma, taste, texture and balance. Mr. Martin van Kan, Area Gen- eral Manager Malta, mentioned "I would like to congratulate Marco on his achievement he does him- self and InterContinental Malta great credit. What was on display throughout the competition rep- resents everything that we con- tinue to strive towards here at the hotel, fantastic products of great quality, presented with flair, skill and excellence." Marco Utumo New Kia Sportage and Optima win design awards KIA Motors has once again re- inforced its reputation for the highest design standards, pick- ing up two prizes at the 2016 Red Dot Awards for Product De- sign, one of the most prestigious international product design competitions. The new Kia Sportage compact SU V and Optima sedan – the carmaker's two latest models – both received coveted Red Dots. The independent judging panel even honoured the Kia Optima with a Best of the Best award, the competition's highest distinction, for which only the most ground-breaking designs in a category are eligible. The new generations of the Optima and the European Kia bestseller, the Sportage, were launched across Kia's global markets earlier this year. These new prizes have seen both mod- els defending their Red Dot Awards – both the previous gen- erations of the Kia Sportage and Kia Optima also received Red Dot awards in 2011, while the Optima retains its Best of the Best prize. Since 2009, when the first-generation Kia Soul won the carmaker's first award in the competition, Kia's design teams have gone on to achieve a total of 15 Red Dot Awards. Now, in 2016, every model in the current Kia product range has a Red Dot. Peter Schreyer, President and Chief Designer of Kia Motors Corporation, commented: "Our international design team has every cause to be exception- ally proud of these most re- cent awards. The first Red Dot Awards for the Kia Sportage and the Kia Optima were already great successes. It is a very spe- cial achievement to further de- velop a first-rate, prize-winning model so that the new design also convinces the expert jury of this globally respected and pres- tigious design competition. "The two award-winners are important models for our brand. The Sportage has been the brand 's bestseller in Europe for many years. The Kia Optima, which is one of the strongest selling Kia models worldwide, also embodies the development of brand in a very special way: the third generation, which ar- rived on the global stage in 2010, acted as the catalyst for the de- sign-led transformation of Kia's product range in the following years. Both the new Kia Sportage and the new Kia Optima stand out very strongly from their ri- vals in their respective catego- ries on account of the clarity, distinction and sporty elegance of their exterior design. Both cars also feature a completely redesigned, premium-standard interior with modern, horizon- tally aligned and very 'clean- looking' design." Both models received the highest rating of five stars in the European safety test Euro NCAP,. Like all Kia cars, the Kia Sportage and Kia Optima are sold with Kia's unique seven- year warranty. Kia is represented in Malta by Cars International, Mdina Road, Qormi. The trained managers were from The General Soft Drinks Co. Ltd, Arkadia Marketing Ltd, The Waterfront Hotel and IELS (Institute of English Language Studies), which is jointly owned by Mizzi Organisation and FTI Group Gmbh. By the end of the training course, FranklinCovey (Malta) de- livered 2,050 hours of training over a period of two weeks. Nine train- ers also gained certification as fully licensed facilitators, with the in- tention to cascade the programme to all employees later in the year. In her introductory address at the beginning of each of the four three-day programmes, Maria Mi- callef, Chief Operating Officer of the Mizzi Companies and Execu- tive Director at IELS, said she was confident that the participating staff 's achieved skills would help them both at work and in their per- sonal lives. Quoting the results of a survey in the US, she said only 14% of execu- tives accomplish all they believe they could; only 17% prepare a plan for the day; and only 50% feel satis- fied and fulfilled with their work. She urged those who attended to share insights among themselves since this was the first training ini- tiative to be conducted by the four companies jointly. Shirley Grixti, Chief HR Man- ager, stressed the benefit of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People programme since it places the in- dividual at the core of the organi- sation, giving each one the tools to motivate and empower themselves and others. It is also a powerful tool to drive cultural change and increase employee engagement. Malcolm J. Naudi, Managing Partner of FranklinCovey (Malta) Ltd, who co-facilitated the pro- grammes with Jimmy Naudi, said the 7 Habits programme had given the executives at the four compa- nies a shared language, aligning them behind a common mission and vision. "With the training of in-house facilitators in all the four compa- nies, management is showing its commitment to drive this culture change throughout all levels of these companies," he said. LAST weekend, the Valletta Wa- terfront was bursting with life thanks to the Colourfest event which formed part of the annual spring festival organised by the Valletta Cruise Port. People were immersed in outdoor activities, entertained with live bands and greeted with numerous stands, including the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Stand providing lifestyle advice and testing for blood pressure, blood glucose and BMI. The stand add- ed to the vibrant colours with fruits sponsored by Fruitland Co. Ltd, which provided visitors with refreshing fruit throughout the whole activity. At this point, you may be questioning what the relation between fruit and colour is. Studies show that the colour of a fruit indicates the health ben- efits that it contains. Lycopene, the natural plant pigments that give red fruit their bright colour is known to be a strong antioxi- dant, helping to reduce the risk of certain types of cancer and keeps your heart healthy. Simi- larly, Caretenoids give citrus fruits their orange and yellow colour which later converts to vitamin A and helps take care of your eyesight. Green fruit and vegetables get their green colour thanks to their chlorophyll con- tent; the darker the green, the higher the source of folic acid. And don't worry if it's colourless, as Allicin is known for depriving white fruit from its colour and contains an anti-bacterial ele- ment which helps lower choles- terol and blood pressure. Fruitland Co. Ltd is looking forward to the next collabora- tion in a series of many with the Ministry of Energy and Health.
