22 maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 1 JUNE 2016 Sport MOTORSPORTS TENNIS French Open organisers under fire after yet another wet day FANS spent more time look- ing at the murky Parisian sky then watching tennis yesterday as French Open organisers were accused of "not caring about the players" after the event was dis- rupted by more rain following the previous day's washout. Czech seventh seed Thomas Berdych summed up everyone's frustration on a day when nine hours of play was lost by tweet- ing: "Hey @AustralianOpen can you send us one roof here to Par- is?! You have 3 down there." The inability to play under cover, with Roland Garros being the only one of the four grand slam venues that does not have a court with a retractable roof, certainly proved costly for Ag- nieszka Radwanska and Simona Halep -- fourth-round losers in the only two matches that were completed. World number two Radwanska and 2014 runner-up Halep, who both started their last-16 match- es on Sunday, were forced to play in misty rain as organisers made a desperate attempt to clear a huge backlog. "No one cares about the players in my opinion," sixth seed Halep said after she was beaten 7-6(0) 6-3 by Australian Sam Stosur in a battle of former finalists. "It was impossible to play. To play tennis matches during the rain is a bit too much. I was close to getting injured with my back... but no one cares." Radwanska had been leading Bulgaria's Tsvetana Pironkova 6-2 3-0 when rain halted play on Sunday. When the match resumed more than 40 hours later, the Polish second seed suffered a monu- mental meltdown as she lost 10 successive games in a 2-6 6-3 6-3 defeat by an opponent ranked 100 places below her. "I'm just so surprised and angry that we have to play in the rain. I mean, it's not a $10,000 tourna- ment. It's a grand slam," said Rad- wanska, the highest seed to exit the tournament. First night event by ASMK on Saturday ON Saturday 4 June 2016 Assoċjazzjoni Sport Muturi u Karozzi is to continue its motor- sport events of the ASMK Pasta Poiatti 2015/2016 champion- ships. During this activity the National Motocross Champi- onship will be concluded while the National Championships for Autocross cars will be competing in the next last two races. The Motocross races start at 4:30pm. Later, the car racing starts at around 7:30pm and will continue until late at night. Meanwhile a look at the rank- ings of the Autocross Modified class in the National category we find that Christian Mark Galea on a Fiat Ritmo contin- ues to dominate despite that in his last event he finished in third place overall. Galea still enjoys a substantial lead and the chance of winning another Class A Championship with his 206 points with two more races to go. Galea is followed by Malcolm Borg on an Opel Corsa in second place with 150 points while third place Joseph Micallef on another Opel Corsa has 116 points. In this classification it is still com- pletely uncertain who the second and third place drivers will be as with Borg and Micallef we find that Gordon Johnson on an Opel Corsa and Josef Abela on a Nova still stand a very good chance to advance further in the classifi- cation during these last two re- maining events. In the Autocross Standard Cat- egory Deane Farrugia on Citroen AX continues to strive to acquire another championship honor. Farrugia is heading in the stand- ings with 54 points and during the two following activities he is expected to continue the bat- tle for the lead with his followers who currently are Traydon Bailey on a Ford Ka with 42 points and the Citroen AX of Ian Fenech with 41 points. In this classifica- tion there is also a chance that Johann Vella from Gozo will continue to advance up the poits scale on his Opel Nova who cur- rently lies in fourth place with 30 points. In Autocross Class A Category Christian Mark Galea on his Fiat Ritmo attained the ranking of Class Leader and is currently in a position that nobody can beat him. Galea has 62 points and is followed by Malcolm Borg with 26 points and Gordon Johnson with 25 points. Both dtivers race on Opel Corsa cars. Yet the scene for the second and third places in the standings is insecure as there is a chance for Philip Joe Vella to enter the scene again on Opel Corsa who currently has 24 points. Josef Grech on a Fiesta currently has 22 points. In Autocross Class B category Joseph Micallef on Opel Corsa is 62 points is already declared as the class winner. He tops the points scale in this category with such a substantial advantage that it is not likely that any of his fol- lowers can exceed it. Following Micallef 'sposition is a battle for second place between Jonathan Camilleri on his Opel Corsa who is currently in second place with 33 points and Josef Abela on an Opel Nova with 21 points. In Motocross Motorcycles Class category it is yet to be decided who is the Class winner. This is yet still open between broth- ers Kyle and Clayton Camilleri both riding on a KTM's and the Champion will be declared dur- ing next Saturday's last events. Clayton is currently up front with 258 points and is followed by his younger brother Kyle with 241 pointS. Currently in third place we find Paul Muscat also on a KTM with 144 points. The Motocross Class B and Open Class winner is young Gozo rider Mario Cauchi on a Honda who won this Double as he has already dominated and is unbeaten in these two classes. Cauchi in Class B leads ahead with 307 points and is followed by Etienne Bigeni with 197 points on his Honda motorcycle. Third place is Jorn Stellini with 177 points on a Kawasaki motorcycle. The fight for second place fol- lowing Cauchi's lead in the Mo- tocross Open Class category there are Etienne Bigeni who currently is in second place with 84 and there is Kyle Camilleri who currently is in third place with 83 points. Paul Muscat is in fourth place with 75 points. For more information one can visit the website www.asmk. org.mt or the Facebook social site called A.S.M.K.
