Emirates SkyFresh brings to- gether Emirates SkyCargo's state of the art infrastructure at its hub in Dubai, a modern fleet of wide-bodied aircraft including freighters, a range of innovative cool chain solutions including the brand new ventilated cool dolly and experienced staff to ensure that perishables such as fruits, vegetables, fresh fish and seafood, meat and flowers maintain their freshness during the entire air transportation process. Emirates SkyFresh will feature three levels - Emirates SkyFresh, Emirates SkyFresh Breathe and Emirates SkyFresh Active - of- fering varied levels of cool chain protection for different kinds of perishables. The basic solution, Emirates SkyFresh, is geared towards tem- perature tolerant fruits and veg- etables and will offer quick ramp transportation and thermal pro- tection through Emirates SkyCar- go's White Cover blanket. Emir- ates SkyFresh Breathe provides protection for temperature sensi- tive perishables such as fresh cut flowers, ready to sell cut fruits and vegetables and fresh fish. Unique features will include pri- oritised ground handling as well as the use of the Emirates Sky- Fresh ventilated cool dolly. Emirates SkyFresh Active will offer the highest protection for perishables that cannot withstand any temperature deviation us- ing specialised temperature con- trolled containers during trans- portation. Introducing the Emirates SkyFresh ventilated cool dolly The Emirates SkyFresh ventilat- ed cool dolly is Emirates SkyCar- go's latest innovative cool chain protection product which helps preserve the freshness of perisha- bles that require constant circula- tion of fresh cool air. The fresh air is then cleaned using custom built filters, cooled and then circulated inside the refrigerated interior where the temperature sensitive perishable cargo is stored. Globalisation of food and economic contribution Transporting perishables is an important part of business for Emirates SkyCargo. People all over the world are increasingly aware and interested in culinary flavours and produce from different coun- tries and regions. In line with this trend, the catering and hospitality industry globally has also been of- fering more international dining choices to customers. More and more perishables from different parts of the world are shipped by air to ensure that the products ar- rive fresh and within a short span of time at the destination. In 2016, Emirates SkyCargo transported close to 400,000 tonnes of perishables across its global network of over 150 desti- nations. This included products as diverse as salmon from Nor- way, strawberries from California, flowers from Ecuador, meat from Australia, mangoes from the Indi- an subcontinent, wine and cheese from France. Emirates SkyCargo is an important facilitator of glob- al trade in perishables and helps make an important contribution to local exports. Emirates SkyCargo operates a modern fleet of 259 wide-bodied aircraft including 15 freighters- 13 Boeing 777-Fs and two B747- 400ERFs. The carrier boasts state of the art cool chain facilities at its Emirates SkyCentral cargo hubs at Dubai International Airport and Dubai World Central includ- ing over 25,000 square metres of dedicated temperature controlled storage space and dedicated reefer trucks operating 24/7 between Dubai World Central and Dubai International Airport. Emirates operates daily sched- uled flights between Malta and Dubai via Larnaca, Cyprus, on a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. The Festival will be taking place in three different loca- tions around the Maltese Is- lands, namely Xagħra (Gozo), Marsaxlokk and Valletta. The event kicks off in Gozo on Sat- urday 22 April, followed by a performance in Marsaxlokk on Friday 28 April, and the Grand Finale taking place in the Grand Harbour, Valletta on Sunday 30 April 2017. This year's closing event is going to be particularly special, as apart from marking the an- niversary of Malta joining the European Union, it will also form part of the celebrations to mark the Maltese Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The music that will be used during the grand finale will be produced by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra to ac- company the fireworks display performed by Pyroemotions and St Mary Fireworks Factory of Ħal Għaxaq, with the latter being the 2016 festival winners. Another novelty introduced this year is that, for the first time, all Malta Pyrotechnic Association members and ob- servers were permitted to apply for a spot in the festival. In order to encourage in- creased local participation, the organising committee has decided to reward the highest placed local competitor with an invitation to participate at an international fireworks fes- tival, taking place overseas, in order to showcase our skills. This year, the participating companies shall be: TemexSon – Pyro Events Team (Roma- nia), Makalu Fireworks (Czech Republic), Pyro Italy (Italy), Mirnovec Pirotehnika (Croa- tia), Kamra tan-Nar 'Madonna tac-Cintura' (Gudja, Malta) & Kamra tan-Nar Santa Marija (Qrendi, Malta). MTA CEO, Paul Bugeja, said that "this festival is one of the main highlights in the Maltese calendar of events and it has grown in popularity both lo- cally and abroad." Bugeja con- tinued by thanking all those involved in this Festival, in particular the organising com- mittee this year lead by God- frey Farrugia. It is relevant to note that this event is gen- erating substantial trade to a wide spectrum of stakeholders wherever this is being organ- ised. Gozo in particular has now become a permanent cal- endar event which helps to re- duce seasonality even further in our sister Island. Malta Fireworks Festival this week Tallinja App wins MCA eBusiness Best App Award Malta Public Transport was honoured to receive the Best App award for the tallinja mo- bile app, which was developed by Alert, at the annual MCA eBusi- ness awards this week. "We believe that the tallinja mobile app has had an immense impact on the way people use public transport in Malta," said Daniel Grech, Commercial Di- rector at Malta Public Trans- port. "Receiving this award is indeed an honour. Although we could see that the app was an in- stant success, with over 100,000 downloads in one year, this rec- ognition means a lot to our team and will surely motivate us to continue to improve the service." The app's design and func- tion revolve around improving the customer experience for those choosing to travel by bus. Through the app, passengers can see real-time information about bus arrival times, at any of the 2,000 bus stops around the island. This innovative feature offers added value to our cus- tomers, while it also provided easy access to information and functions already available on- line, such as the journey planner or topping up the tallinja card account. "This app most definitely con- tributed toward the turnaround in the public's mind-set towards public transport," Grech said. "We would like to thank our partners in this venture, Alert (now Deloitte Digital), for their commitment in the development of this product. We look forward to continue working together on the new updates that will be re- leased in the coming weeks." The MCA eBusiness Awards have the aim of acknowledg- ing unique and innovative ideas and initiatives in the use of web- based technologies and eBusi- ness for businesses and soci- ety at large. Established in 2011, these awards aid in the promo- tion of the most innovative ini- tiatives in the domain of eBusi- ness for development and to spread awareness about the role of web-based technologies in addressing social and economic concerns. @ maltatoday We are on Instagram
