44 Events maltatoday, SUNDAY, 23 APRIL 2017 Emirates SkyCargo, the freight di- vision of Emirates, has transported 'New Zealand Aotearoa' – Emir- ates Team New Zealand's race boat – from Auckland to Bermuda in advance of the Louis Vuitton America's Cup sailing competition which will begin in late May 2017. Emirates SkyCargo has once again demonstrated its ability to safely transport outsized and unusual cargo. Emirates SkyCargo transported Emirates Team New Zealand's race boat and all associated support equipment including the team's chase boat. In order to facilitate the loading and air transportation process, the high-tech sailing boat had to be disassembled into smaller parts – two hulls, two wings, beams, rudders and other equipment. Its trained and experienced staff worked closely with the techni- cal staff from Emirates Team New Zealand making sure that the load- ing went smoothly. The complete shipment weighed slightly over 44 tonnes; at over eight tonnes, the team's chase boat was the heaviest individual component in the shipment. Three ground crew from Emirates Team New Zealand travelled with the equip- ment onboard the Emirates Sky- Cargo freighter for the flight, which lasted 18 hours and 50 minutes. The flight included a 90-minute stopo- ver in Los Angeles for the aircraft to refuel and change flight crew before continuing its journey to Bermuda. Given the logistical challenges in- volved in the transport of the boat, Emirates SkyCargo initiated the planning process with Emirates Team New Zealand several months prior to the actual date of the trans- portation. Emirates SkyCargo is no stran- ger to carrying heavy and outsized cargo. Over the years the carrier has transported helicopters, aircraft engines, outsized land vehicles, equipment and machinery for the construction and oil and gas indus- tries, power generators and ships' rudders. With its global network of over 150 destinations and a dedi- cated fleet of 15 freighter aircraft, Emirates SkyCargo facilitates quick and efficient transport of heavy and outsized cargo. Emirates operates daily scheduled flights between Malta and Dubai via Larnaca, Cyprus, on a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. Emirates Sky- Cargo is located on the First Floor at MIA Departures and can be con- tacted on tel. no 25577255 ext 4, or at skycargomla@emirates.com. More than four out of five (82%) also believe the number of UK- based financial services firms generally seeking to establish sub- sidiaries in the European Union will increase over the next three years due to Brexit. While 44% believe that UK asset managers specifically will probably get to passport their funds into the EU after Brexit, around 30% believe this will not happen. The full findings of the research will be announced at the Finance Malta 10th Annual "Conference due to be held in Malta on 17 and 18 May 2017. MPG believes that one of the biggest beneficiaries of Brexit will be Malta because of its EU membership, its efficient regulatory and legal environment and its highly educated, English- speaking workforce. Although a sizeable minor- ity in our survey believe UK asset managers will be able to passport their funds in the EU after Brexit I think this will be unlikely – cur- rent members of the European Economic Area such as Switzer- land, Liechtenstein and Norway do not have this privilege," Jeremy Leach, Chief Executive Officer at MPG, commented. "As such, many asset managers and other UK financial services companies will look to establish a secondary entity somewhere in Europe post-Brexit and Malta should certainly be on the list of serious options. Our survey also showed that respondents believe the most important considera- tions for those UK companies looking to set up another opera- tion elsewhere are a comprehen- sive legal and regulatory frame- work (78%), followed by the tax regime (52%) and economic sta- bility (42%). Malta is exemplary under all of these criteria." "Malta's proposition as an in- ternational financial centre has continued to enjoy momentum, as evidenced by the sustained growth experienced in 2016 and the conduit of international busi- ness operations currently seeking an investment services licence through the Malta Financial Ser- vices Authority," Finance Malta chairman Kenneth Farrugia said. "This success of Malta's finan- cial services industry has been driven by a number of factors, including the presence of a com- prehensive regulatory legal and framework, the work ethos and skills of the human resources in Malta, the accessibility to the Regulator and its pro-business approach, Malta's cost competi- tiveness as well as political and economic stability." Malta Stock Exchange chairman Joe Portelli added: "Malta offers a highly competitive, cost-effective solution for any company looking to establish itself within the EU. We are a pragmatically well-reg- ulated, English-speaking finan- cial centre with a hardworking and educated workforce. Setting up in Malta can be done relatively efficiently and highly cost effec- tively, with costs being consider- ably lower than other European domiciles."
