maltatoday, SUNDAY, 7 MAY 2017 Events 47 More green initiatives by Vassallo Builders Vassallo Builders is proud to have once again set standards for the local building and construction industry with the acquisition of four new 100% Electric Nissan Leaf vehicles. During a key-handing over cer- emony, in the presence of Group chairman Nazzareno Vassallo and CEO Pio Vassallo, Nissan Malta general manager Jean Claude Spi- teri Miggiani congratulated Vas- sallo Builders for this investment and praised the initiative. In line with its green strategy and environmental values, Vassallo Builders opted to scrap four vehi- cles from its older fleet and replace these with four new 30KW Nissan Leaf – the latest model from Nis- san in a history that spans decades of research and development in the field. Through this initia- tive, the powerful 30kWh battery pack will eliminate close to 14 metric tons of CO2 emissions per year and allow users to drive for up to 170Km on a single charge. Furthermore, the Group shall be complementing this investment with the installation of a state-of- the-art electric charging station at its Mosta Head Offices allowing all four vehicles to be plugged-in and charged at the same time. Nazzareno Vassallo expressed his firm belief that the Group's choices can truly make a differ- ence. "In line with the Group's ethos and as part of our environmental policy, Vassallo Builders has iden- tified transportation as a key area where we can make a real impact. For this reason we are here mak- ing a clear statement attesting this belief whilst embracing zero emis- sion technology and putting the Nissan Leaf as part of our fleet," he said. Spreading over a number of its properties, Vassallo Builders prides itself in being one of the first local organisations to invest and install close to one Megawatt of roof-mounted photovoltaic in- stallations, as well as the design and construction of Malta's two largest solid waste treatment plants, in total capable of generat- ing more than 10 Gigawatt Hours of renewable energy per year. "Having pioneered a number of the country's landmark projects and ground-breaking invest- ments, this initiative might not come as a surprise. However, the Group wanted to demonstrate how electric vehicles can help re- duce the carbon footprint of any business operation while provid- ing the practicality and versatil- ity needed to deliver services," Pio Vassallo said. He added that apart from the technology's green credentials, driving an EV is also reliable and cost-effective. Spiteri Miggiani thanked the Group for choosing Nissan in this venture and expressed satisfaction in seeing forward-thinking busi- nesses just as Vassallo Builders Group paving the way for others. "I am delighted that Vassallo Builders has put into practice its green philosophy. Even though the industry might not be syn- onymous with embracing green values, Vassallo Group has once again taken the leap and we look forward to see other businesses follow by example and switch to more sustainable transport solu- tions." Royal Warrant granted to Hildon natural mineral water Hildon Ltd are delighted to an- nounce that they have been granted the Royal Warrant of Appointment to The Queen af- ter a number of years supplying the Royal Household. "The warrant is a highly- prized seal of approval that is granted after an extremely rig- orous audit process" executive director Debbie Jones explained. "This means a great deal to the whole team. Crucially, it is fur- ther proof that we have a robust environmental and sustainabil- ity policy, which is not only part of the criteria to hold the war- rant, but also an important part of our core philosophy." "Our enviable customer base, which includes the Royal House- hold, is a testament to our great water and unrivalled customer service. We are very proud to be holders of a Royal Warrant," James Burston, sales and mar- keting director, added. The fascinating history of the Royal Warrant can be recorded as far back as medieval times, when the Monarch chose their preferred suppliers from the best tradespeople in the land, and competition for ro yal pa- tronage was fierce. In the 15th century, the head of the Royal Household (the Lord Chamber- lain) began formally appointing suppliers with a Royal Warrant – a practice that continues to this day. The Royal Warrant is granted to producers who have been supplying one of three Royal Households for no less than five in seven consecutive years and is valid for five years, subject to the holder observing very spe- cific criteria. The Appointment to The Queen conveys a "mark of recognition of those who have supplied goods or services to the Households of HM The Queen… and who have an on-going trad- ing arrangement." The Warrant is yet another endorsement for this quintes- sentially English brand, still f ly- ing the f lag for English quality around the World. "Hildon natural mineral wa- ter was founded in 1989 by an inspirational entrepreneur and dedicated philanthropist. Since his sad passing in 2016 the team have worked tirelessly to continue his legacy of char- ity, service and delivering the best quality product. The Royal Warrant of Appointment to The Queen conveys that we have suc- ceeded in continuing this legacy in a way that Christian Leopold Heppe would be proud," manag- ing director Yee Lay Tang said.
