maltatoday, SUNDAY, 14 MAY 2017 Events 51 Emirates to launch third daily Brisbane service Emirates announced it will in- troduce a third daily service to Brisbane, Australia from 1 De- cember 2017, complementing Emirates' existing two daily ser- vices. The direct service, to be oper- ated on a B777-200LR aircraft with eight seats in First Class, 42 in Business Class and 216 in Economy Class, will increase ca- pacity on the route by 3,724 seats a week, inbound and outbound between Brisbane and Emirates' hub Dubai. The inbound service EK430 will depart Dubai at 10:00pm, arriving in Brisbane at 6:15am the following day. While the out- bound flight EK431 will depart Brisbane at 10:25pm, arriving in Dubai at 07:00am the following day. The service will operate along- side two existing daily services to Dubai. Flights EK434 and EK435 operate nonstop between Dubai and Brisbane and onwards to Auckland, New Zealand, while flights EK432 and EK433 oper- ate between Dubai and Brisbane via Singapore. Additionally, with codeshare partner Qantas, Emir- ates offers services to Singapore twice daily from Brisbane. The news comes as Emirates announced it would be upgaug- ing its third daily service to Mel- bourne from a B777-300ER to an A380 operation from 25 March 2018, allowing passengers to travel aboard Emirates' A380 on all three daily flights between Melbourne and Dubai. With its diverse cities and coastal lifestyle, Australia is a popular destination for travel- lers from Malta. Brisbane is re- nowned for its thriving culture and is the major international gateway to the Gold Coast, a tourist hot spot and host of the Gold Coast 2018 Common- wealth Games. From a cargo perspective, the 777-200LR offers 14 tonnes of cargo capacity in the bellyhold. Popular goods expected to be transported on these services in- clude fresh meat and vegetables, as well as pharmaceuticals. Emirates has something for the entire family as passengers can enjoy more than 2,500 channels of its award-winning inflight entertainment system ice. Pas- sengers can also take advantage of onboard connectivity with its inflight Wi-Fi system. Emirates offers generous bag- gage allowances, with up to 35kg in Economy Class, 40kg in Business Class and 50kg in First Class. Emirates currently oper- ates 77 flights a week to Aus- tralia from Dubai, with flights to Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Sydney. The ad- dition of this service will bring this number, including Qantas operated flights, to 98 flights per week to Australia from Dubai. Microsoft assists MITA's participation at IDC Forum in Cyprus Atlas Insurance launches new and improved travel benefits Microsoft has invited and sup- ported the participation of MI- TA's chief technology officer God- win Caruana's participation at the recent IT Managers Innovation Forum held in Cyprus. The IDC Forum created a plat- form for the sharing of the latest developments and emerging ap- plications for collaborative net- working and partnerships within the IT industry's ecosystem. In his presentation, Caruana spoke on how Malta's Information Technology Agency, with Micro- soft's support, is applying today's technology to deliver a transform- ative vision and gave an overview of MITA's role, responsibilities, technology landscape, current key projects as well as an indication of areas being considered as part of its longer term vision. "MITA's role is to deliver and implement the assigned pro- grammes as set out in the Digital Malta National ICT Strategy 2014 - 2020. MITA, manages the im- plementation of IT programmes in government to enhance public service delivery and provides the infrastructure needed to execute ICT services to the government. MITA is also responsible to prop- agate further use of ICT in society and economy and to promote and deliver programmes to enhance ICT education and the use of ICT as a learning tool," Caruana said. "We are proud to have support- ed MITA's participation at this important IDC Forum in Cyprus as this forms part of Microsoft's commitment to help Malta's gov- ernment position itself as a cata- lyst in IT citizen empowerment," Microsoft Malta's country man- ager Panayiotis Ioannou said. The IDC Forum took place in Malta on 11 May. Chief infor- mation officers, IT directors, IT strategists, IT managers and heads of departments and IT infrastruc- ture and operation managers were in attendance.
