Bob Iger, Walt Disney Co. Chief Executive Officer, revealed the threat on Monday in a town-hall meeting with ABC staff before the network's autumn season presentation to advertisers in New York. Iger did not reveal the name of the film, nor the amount of the ransom, but said the company would not pay up. But according to industry publication Deadline.com, the movie stolen is Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which is scheduled to be released on 26 May. And hackers are demanding "an enormous amount of money to be paid in Bitcoin," it said. Iger said Disney is refusing to pay, and that the studio is working with federal investigators. He added that the hackers had demanded the ransom in bitcoin and that they would release the film online in a series of 20-minute chunks unless it was paid. It is not the first film studio to be threatened with online leaks. Last month, a group of hackers uploaded the fifth season of Orange is the New Black after Netflix refused to pay a ransom. Dead Men Tell No Tales is the fifth instalment of the Pirates franchise and will see Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow return to the ocean alongside Geoffrey Rush and Orlando Bloom. Cybersecurity researchers have found evidence they say could link North Korea with the WannaCry cyber attack, as global authorities scrambled to prevent hackers from spreading new versions of the virus. A researcher from South Korea's Hauri Labs said yesterday their own findings matched those of Symantec and Kaspersky Lab, who said on Monday that some code in an earlier version of the WannaCry software had also appeared in programs used by the Lazarus Group, identified by some researchers as a North Korea- run hacking operation. "It is similar to North Korea's backdoor malicious codes," a senior researcher with Hauri who has done extensive research into North Korea's hacking capabilities and advises South Korean police and National Intelligence Service.Simon Choi said. Both Symantec and Kaspersky said it was too early to tell whether North Korea was involved in the attacks, based on the evidence that was published on Twitter by Google security researcher Neel Mehta. The attacks, which slowed on Monday, are among the fastest- spreading extortion campaigns on record. In China, foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said she had no information to share, when asked about the origin of the attack and whether North Korea might be connected. Several Asian countries have been affected by the malware, although the impact has not been as widespread as some had feared.
