Xerri's Sensei visit will be part of a world tour during which he will meet, teach and share Aikido techniques and experience with other students and Aikido masters in Australia, Europe and Ja- pan. Aikido (translated as 'the Way of Harmonious Spirit') is a Japanese martial art that focuses on the development of a harmonious, co-opera- tive spirit. Aikido students are taught a powerful system of self-defence while, para- doxically, learning of the fu- tility of aggression, violence and fighting. Aikido does not utilize kicks and punches. Instead it utilises powerful and some- times complex lock, pin and throw techniques that blend with and redirect an oppo- nents' aggressive energy to- wards harmless dissipation. Chikko Xerri Sensei (VI Dan) has been studying and teaching Aikido for more than 40 years. Xerri Sensei is a long time member of the Aikido Kenkyukai Interna- tional network under Takeda Yoshinobu Shihan 8th Dan and part of the lineage of the late Seigo Yamaguchi Shihan one of the senior students of O'Sensei the founder of Aikido. Xerri Sensei set up his own Dojo, the Fudoshin Dojo, in the Sunshine Coast in 1984. He lives and instructs Ai- kido in Noosa Heads. The seminar promises to provide an interesting per- spective to local Aikidoka as Xerri's Sensei Aikido focus is inf luenced by the use of weapons. This will be Sensei Xerri's seventh seminar with the Yamato Dojo. The seminar will be held at the AIKIDO YAMATO DO- JO at the Maria Assumpta Girls Secondary School 32, J.Abela Scolaro Street, Ham- run. The public are invited to watch Xerri Sensei on Mon- day 29th and Wednesday 31st May 2017 between 18:30 – 20:00. A beginner's course is also scheduled in June.
