Said declares financial interests: 'All my cards are on the table' TIM DIACONO PN leadership contestant Chris Said has published a declaration of his and his immediate family's assets, declar- ing that "all cards are on the table for me". Said published a declaration of his assets during a press conference at the PN party club of Birkirkara – the home town of fellow leadership con- testant Adrian Delia. While Said, an MP, already declares his full list of assets with the House of Representatives, the move was widely believed to be baiting main rival Adri- an Delia, a successful litigation lawyer whose considerable wealth remains undisclosed. "All cards are on the table for me and, if elected leader I promise to publish a declaration of my assets every year," he said. The declaration shows that Said owns a house in Nadur, an apartment in Lija, and an office in Victoria, and co-owns an apartment in Nadur. Said, his wife and children have a combined €50,293 deposited in ac- counts held at BOV, Banif and Lom- bard, and he also has a €52,596 loan with the latter bank. He has also invested €2,312 in a Val- letta Fund Management fund, €4,900 in BOV subordinate bonds, and €5,448 in insurance from MSV Life. At his press conference, Said pledged to empower the PN's general council – composed of some 1,500 delegates – to elect the party's secre- tary-general every two years. He also promised to empower the PN's electoral commission (Elcom), entrusting it with internal surveys and giving it 15 seats in the general council and three seats in the execu- tive council. Asked by MaltaToday whether Si- mon Busuttil will have a role in his fu- ture shadow Cabinet, Said confirmed that he intends to work side by side with the outgoing PN leader. "The PN still needs Simon Busuttil and, as leader, I intend to work side by side with him to fight corruption," he said. "What was illegal and corrupt before the election is still illegal and corrupt now, and I promise that we will double down in our fight against corruption." "All cards are on the table for me and, if elected leader I promise to publish a declaration of my assets every year" Nationalist transparency: MP Chris Said says he will publish his declaration of assets every year Delia plans two assistants for PN sec-gen, Council grilling for candidates PAUL COCKS THE Nationalist Party's secretary general will have two assistants, not one, and all candidates contesting any election on the PN ticket would be subject to scrutiny by the general council, if Adrian Delia is elected to replace Simon Busuttil as leader of the party. MaltaToday has learned that Delia, who is con- testing the leadership with Chris Said, Alex Per- ici Calascione and Frank Portelli, would also rein- troduce a permanent di- rector for local councils, to coordinate the work of all PN councillors and as- sist them as required. Under Delia's leader- ship, the party's secre- tary-general will have two deputies to assist with political and ad- ministrative duties. They would not be eligible to contest any election, be it a general election or one for local councils or the European Parliament. Sources within Delia's camp said that the candi- date also plans to set up a number of permanent structures that would bring together members of all the party's sections and fora. Delia believes that the policy fora and focus groups already set up were not enough and failed to deliver the suc- cess desired. The party roots were left out of any discussion within the party that dealt with issues of national impor- tance. Delia plans to ensure that any future party policy be developed from among the people and not "from the top down". The general council will be tasked with grilling any candidates contest- ing elections on the PN ticket, as it currently does in the case of candidates contesting the PN leader- ship election. Delia envisages that candidates, having un- dergone a grilling by the council, would then still face the scrutiny of the Candidates Commission that would continue to advise the Executive as to the viability of all the pro- spective candidates. Reformer: Delia has plans for the PN structure
