Caqlaq 'Let's all Play' programme at De La Salle College THE fifth edition of Fundación MAPFRE's educational pro- gramme entitled 'Ċaqlaq' has con- tinued into the new scholastic year with physical activity sessions at De La Salle College in Cottonera. This year, the focus of the Ċaqlaq Programme is on creating aware- ness and the enjoyment of physi- cal exercise amongst school chil- dren in local primary and middle schools. For this year's edition of 'Ċaqlaq', Fundación MAPFRE has teamed up with the Malta Volleyball As- sociation (MVA), which is im- plementing the programme on its behalf. As part of the Ċaqlaq Programme, the MVA has been conducting a series of visits to primary and middle schools, and organising events for schoolchil- dren. In line with the theme of the programme, 'Let's all play', these activities focus on giving children exposure to physical activity with- in a fun environment, while ena- bling them to experience aspects of physical activity, such as basic motor skills, agility, movement coordination, and teamwork. MAPFRE Middlesea Chairman Martin Galea said that both Fun- dación MAPFRE and the Malta Volleyball Association shared a concern for the increasing con- sequences related to the lack of physical exercise, particularly amongst children, and the cer- tainty that in most cases, this is due to a lack of awareness of the positive effects of healthy life- style habits, in particular that of regular exercise. He confirmed that both parties "strongly be- lieve that the situation can be greatly improved by encouraging children to participate in activi- ties where they can enjoy physi- cal exercise, including activities within a team sports environ- ment, in a spirit of fun and team- work." Malta Volleyball Associa- tion President Jesmond Saliba explained that The aim of the programme was to develop chil- dren's interest in regular physical activity through participation in a sport, at least at a basic level. "We also see this as a vehicle for social inclusion through sport, something which we, as an As- sociation, strongly believe in," he said. "Hence the slogan adopted for the Ċaqlaq Programme, 'Let's all play!'" FinanceMalta seminar on a practical approach to Blockchain AS part of its remit to educate and address issues that affect the financial services industry, Fi- nanceMalta recently hosted the third in a series of 'My Blockchain' seminars at Le Meridien Hotel & Spa, St Julian's. The educational seminar was targeted at indi- viduals and companies seeking to explore how they can introduce Blockchain in their business op- erations. The educational session also served as a practical intro- duction to cryptocurrencies. Through these seminars Fi- nanceMalta aims to help del- egates understand the concept of Blockchain and provide general guidelines as to how to go about the process of applying the Block- chain to one's organisation. In his introduction 'How can I apply Blockchain to my busi- ness?' the founder and president of the Blockchain Malta Associa- tion, Steve Tendon, explained that Blockchain offers endless possi- bilities to different businesses and delved into possible applications of blockchain within the opera- tions of a business where a case study was presented insofar as the Identity of Things (IoT). Tendon's introduction was fol- lowed by another case study presented by Christoph Mus- senbrock, CEO and founder of Etherisc on implementing smart contracts in the insurance sector. The second part of the seminar focused on cryptocurrencies. In their presentations, IT alchemist and consultant, Dan Verows- ki together with Bitcoin Club Malta member, Leon Siegmund demonstrated the different cryptocurrencies available, their values, and the different plat- forms where these currencies can be purchased and managed. The seminar was brought to an end with a closing address by FinanceMalta Chairman, Ken- neth Farrugia. He explained that, judging by the way internet had radically impacted our per- sonal life and workplace, it was evident that the application of Blockchain would equally radi- cally and rapidly change the way we live and operate our busi- nesses. On the domestic front, it was evident that there was a strong momentum to position Malta as a leader in these new sectors where the during Q4 of 2017, the Malta Financial Services Authority launched discussion papers and consultation docu- ments with the view to develop a legal and regulatory framework applicable to cypto-currencies, ICOc and Blockchain technol- ogy related service providers during the last quarter of 2017. This year, Malta is expected to be leading this innovative sec- tor by introducing the required legal and regulatory frameworks in the world which will positive- ly strengthen the relevant busi- ness in this place and eventually lead to the formation of strong service clusters. Altaro named 'One to Watch' in a business excellence list published by the annual European Business Awards sponsored by RSM
