maltatoday SUNDAY 18 MARCH 2018 32 This Week WHAT'S ON EXHIBITIONS UNTIL MARCH 24 Ebba von Fersen Balzan Retrospective Retrospective exhibition of works by Ebba von Fersen Balzan, mark- ing ten years since her passing, at the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Valletta. The collection of works on display will include more than 80 creations involving abstract art, landscapes, linographs, neolithic temples and nudes, apart from other styles. A special book has been pub- lished for the occasion and a limited collection of prints will also be on sale. UNTIL MARCH 29 Ħaġraisland Debut solo show by Isaac Azzo- pardi held at the Malta Society of Arts, Palazzo De La Salle, Valletta. Through the use of construction material, appropriation and rub- bing techniques, the show revolves around three main references: Aus- tin Camilleri's installation Stones from 1999, as Maltese contempo- rary art canon, Anselm Kiefer's ide- as about art as alchemy and Malta's changing urbanity. Opening hours are 08:30 – 19:00 (Monday to Fri- day); 08:30 – 13:30 (Saturday). UNTIL APRIL 21 Except for Access Only Exhibition by artist-architect Tom Van Maldaren at Malta Contem- porary Art, Valletta. Malderen pre- sents a series of objects that due to denominations of scale, materiality and context sit somewhere between sculptural objects and architectural models - at a juncture between the field of architecture and that of art. While many of the reflections that have made their way in the exhibi- tion can be traced back to architec- ture, they feel equally relevant and stimulating when brought into an art context. Opening hours: Tues- day - Friday (13:00 – 18:00); Satur- day 10:00 – 13:00. APRIL 4-MAY 2 Terrae Exhibition of works by Victor Ag- ius at Iniala5 Galleries, Old Treas- ury Street Valletta. Agius exam- ines the formless matter proper to his own experience of the environ- ment – either randomly or careful- ly selected sites with their distinc- tive ecological and archaeological features – which all finds its roots in the earth or soil-derived organic materials (raw clay, for instance, beside natural pigments, oils and acrylics). This has allowed him to produce a body of work through which to reflect upon the subject of human existence in general and the limits of his own existence in particular. MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT AND MARCH 19 HUSH Original musical written and di- rected by Denise Mulholland, with music and lyrics by Luke Saydon held at the Manoel Theatre, Valletta and performed by Teatru Manoel Youth Theatre (TMYT). Gus Night- ingale is a little boy from a very fa- mous musical family, but when his mother dies, all music is banned from his house. After he is dreadful- ly humiliated by The Maestro, Gus decides the safest option is to stop speaking and singing - in effect to HUSH! One day, Gus passes the old music shop and finds it open. Inside, he finds a girl called Clementine Pickles. Clementine shows Gus how it is possible to play beautiful music even on broken instruments but as Gus is leaving, an evil stranger en- ters the shop, locks Clementine in a cello case, steals her voice & a pre- cious baton! This evil stranger uses the baton to extract sounds from everyone and everything, leaving the world a completely silent place. A hush has fallen. A plan unfolds. A voice is forgotten... Show times: 18:00 (March 17); 15:00 and 18:00 (March 18); 10:00 and 12:00 (March 19). The event is organised in collaboration with the Valletta 2018 Foundation.
