15 COMMERCIAL maltatoday | SUNDAY • 10 JUNE 2018 THOMAS Smith, as the lo- cal agents for Maersk Line, are proud to bring Maersk Line's sophisticated refrigerated tech- nology to the Maltese market. A ground-breaking innovation, Remote Container Manage- ment (RCM), allows a user to monitor the conditions inside the container from the mo- ment the goods are locked in- side, right up to delivery at their final destination. This new ini- tiative affecting globalisation and the world of perishables continues to reinforce Maersk Line's status as the pioneers in global transportation service. The RCM platform gives the user exclusive and complete insight into the state of the cargo, which increases the ability to act in case there are any inconsistencies during its journey. It helps create an alternative plan and reduce unnecessary costs and incon- venience. The RCM platform which is available for free as a basic service, provides a whole new level of transpar- ency into the supply chain. Essentially it brings the user peace of mind when shipping fresh or frozen cargo – elimi- nating the risk of unexpected surprises when the container is opened upon arrival. Having pioneered refrigerat- ed transport since 1936, Mae- rsk Line has the knowledge, equipment and expertise to streamline logistics and the supply chain with optimal re- frigerated transport solutions. Whether customers are ship- ping fruits and vegetables, ba- nanas, fish and seafood, meat or pharmaceuticals, goods are safely transported from door to door in a sealed, remote- controlled environment to ensure they arrive in perfect condition. Keeping bananas fresh After five months in exist- ence, more than 1,200 cus- tomers are using RCM on shipments representing more than 55 per cent of Maersk Line's total annual reefer volumes. Among their top customers are Chiquita, that were serviced with 2,500 Star Cool Integrated™ containers to transport their bananas. The containers are equipped with MCI's market-leading Star Cool CA (Controlled Atmosphere) system, which effectively preserves the freshness of bananas dur- ing transit. By controlling the ripening, Star Cool CA ensures an extended trans- portation window of up to 45 days and the arrival of the produce in perfect condition for a prolonged shelf life in the supermarkets. Reducing food waste Maersk is investigating ways of helping to address the glob- al challenge of food loss with a business solution, which can help reduce food loss across the value chain. This could be in the form of new packaging and preservation methods, improved information flow, tracking food conditions, new market opportunities or any other solution. Malta Pavilion at International Property Exhibition MALTESE property developments, estate agents and other organisa- tions, are being invited to participate with Property Malta on the Malta Pavilion at Cityscape Dubai in October. The event is the largest of its kind in the Middle East, spread out over 42,000 square metres and at- tracting no less than 45,000 visitors from more than 190 countries. "We firmly believe that this is the next big step in our endeavours to promote all that Malta has to offer and the top investments avail- able in the Maltese real estate market", said Sandro Chetcuti, Chair- man of Property Malta. He went on to express his confidence that the support shown by ten exhibitor partners at the Cannes Property Expo last year will be even bigger for this larger presence in Dubai this year. As part of its proactive approach and in order to broaden participation as much as possible, Property Malta subsidises costs for Maltese operators, through its own substantial investment in the event. Cityscape Global is being held from the 2nd to 4th October. To register their interest in participation, enterprises are being invited to submit their corporate profile by not later than 15th June. If there is more demand than can be accommodated, the allocations will be made by lottery draw. More information on Property Malta is accessible on www.prop- ertymalta.org.
