19 LETTERS & EDITORIAL maltatoday | SUNDAY • 29 JULY 2018 Egrant shame THE conclusion of the magisterial inquiry on the Egrant case has shown the extent to which the reactionary forces within the Opposition can go to in order to regain the political power which they had enjoyed for so many years before undisturbed. To make your political flagship a source of information which is evi- dently fake, unless proven otherwise beyond any doubt, is the culmination of political irresponsibility. One can go on and extend the argument that the political direc- tion taken by the reactionary forces within the Opposition verges on a campaign of class hatred and per- sonal jealousy. What we have experienced is a level of despicable politics. To err is human but to persist in error is diabolic. The least that I, as a citizen living in a democratic coun- try, expect is a national public apol- ogy as the first thing. As a second, the person who led his followers down such a road should call it a day in public life and spend the rest of it in grief. The damage he had caused to individual persons, to his followers and to his country internally and abroad is beyond re- demption. Lastly, the Prime Minister should look around him and the so-called professional persons who in their ingenious ideas had created offshore companies that have done so much damage to the reputation of our country should likewise be given the boot. Alfred Borg Birkirkara Lombard Bank transfers THE news item reported on 6 July 2018 ('Caruana Galizia murder suspects await bail decision in money launder- ing case') concerning details of banking transactions allegedly carried out by Anca Adelina Pop through her account held with Lombard Bank contains a misrepresentation of acts definitely in- sofar as concerns mention of the Bank. The inferences made are factually incorrect and stand to misguide your readers and this is corroborated by the evidence tendered in the criminal proceedings currently pending be- fore the criminal courts against Anca Adelina Pop. Lombard Bank invariably conducts its business in accordance with an in observance of all its regulatory and licencing requirements. Paul Debono Chief office legal and compliance Lombard Bank Editorial Note: It was incorrectly stated that two wire transfers car- ried out from Pop to her mother were made through Lombard Bank. This was an error: the transfers were carried out via Western Union. The online version of the story has since been corrected. Mikiel Galea Letters & Clarifications
