COMMERCIAL 16 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 12 AUGUST 2018 Marnisi Organic wins gold award MARSOVIN has just been awarded a Gold medal for its MARNISI Or- ganic vintage 2016. The result has been received with great delight from the Marsovin winery team as news of the results have been re- ceived only a month after the wine has been officially released on the market. Marsovin's MARNISI 2016 is the first Maltese wine falling in the premium wine category to be certi- fied and awarded the official seal of 'Organic Wine'. The medal has been awarded at the International Organic Wine Awards 2018 organised by Wine System AG in Germany. MARNISI 2016 has competed with another 1086 wines coming from 28 different countries. Marsovin Winery CEO, Jeremy Cassar commented " We are very proud of this award in particular as MARNISI has competed with other wines which have been produced as 'organic' for a number of years, we are happy that MARNISI has managed to win a gold in its first year of release as an organic wine. We are taking this achievement as an official recogni- tion to the hard work by all involved to convert the vines and wine to or- ganic, whilst retaining the premium quality standards of this wine". The organic conversion process be- gan with the application of organic farming practices at the Marnisi Es- tate in Marsaxlokk, where an area covering 2.8 hectares makes this the largest expanse of organically-farmed vines anywhere in Malta. In order to have organically-grown grapes, Marsovin's viticulturists engaged in an entirely different set of practices to maintain their vines. Following the successful vineyard conversion period, the harvested grapes were transferred to the winery, where an alternative winemaking approach was employed to focus on the use of a specific list of ingredients used for organic vinification. The 2016 vintage was characterised by warmer-than-normal tempera- tures and drier weather during the winter months, followed by relatively mild temperatures throughout sum- mer. These elements allowed for very good grape maturity and, thus, an exceptional vintage year. The result- ant wine, MARNISI 2016, portrays a concentrated, complex and layered wine that is very approachable in its infancy and will keep drinking well in the years to come. LifeCycle Challenge 2018 – Foster Clark renews its sponsorship for the second year LIFECYCLE Challenge 2018 has sealed its lead sponsorship with Foster Clark Products Ltd for the second year running. In addition, Foster Clark is the title sponsor of Foster Clark LifeCycle Challenge 2018 which will take place between 28th September to 12th Octo- ber 2018. Foster Clark's Managing Director Joseph Busuttil pre- sented the sponsorship cheque of €25,000 to LifeCycle (Mal- ta) Foundation Chairperson Shirley Cefai. The presenta- tion was held at Foster Clark Products Ltd in San Gwann in the presence of the Minister for Economy, Investment and Small Businesses Christian Cardona, LifeCycle Challenge Founder Alan Curry, Foster Clark's Head of Operations John Schembri, Foster Clark's Regional Sales Manager Nico- laas Fourie, and LifeCycle par- ticipants. "With Foster Clark's contri- bution to LifeCycle Challenge for the second consecutive year, we are facilitating further research studies in kidney dis- ease, so that, eventually, renal patients will have a further im- proved treatment. We admire and believe in LifeCycle Foun- dation's mission, as it is the only dedicated NGO that has been supporting persons suffering from kidney diseases along the past 20 years. Foster Clark au- gurs that our initiative will be emulated by other companies and individuals in supporting LifeCycle's noble cause," said John Schembri. The funds being raised by LifeCycle participants will go towards the needs and care of kidney disease patients. Apart from life-saving equipment and improved facilities, Life- Cycle is sponsoring the Twi- light Shift Van to transport patients to and from Mater Dei Hospital for their evening dialysis, as well as the software matching programme called "Traccia" which determines the best recipient for a kidney donation. LifeCycle Foundation also offers a part sponsorship of the annual trip to Lourdes for patients and accompanying medical staff. The Founda- tion aims to raise a substantial sum of €150,000 to sustain its current and new projects for 2018-2019. Whilst thanking Foster Clark for their contribution, Alan Curry said that the money re- ceived will be going towards an on-going kidney research programme at the University of Malta, which came to frui- tion with LifeCycle Founda- tion's initial donation in 2014 and again in 2017. The study is focussing on the genetics and pathophysiology of rare kidney diseases in children. Named Arabian Knights, the 25 cyclists (22 males and 3 fe- males) hailing from Malta, Al- bania, Kenya, Latvia, Poland, Spain, Switzerland and UK, will travel to Dubai and cycle 2,000km to Salalah, in South- ern Oman. The route will take the par- ticipants from Abu Dhabi to Al Ain, Dank, Nizwa and Al Wasil. From Al Wasil they cy- cle for three days through the desert until they reach Shalim Wa Juzor and arrive in Salalah on the tenth day. "In the twenty years since its founding, LifeCycle has truly left a long-lasting legacy in our country. The support and long-term benefits it has pro- vided to kidney patients and its' contributions to the Uni- versity's research is unquan- tifiable. I wish our athletes well in this gruelling challenge ahead. Foster Clark's, and the many other businesses in- volved, are leading by example how enterprises can give back to their community," stated Minister Cardona. KFC Malta launches the famous Double Down KFC Malta has launched the Double Down, one of KFC's most successful sandwiches. Previously only available in Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Canada and the UK, the Double Down has finally hit Malta's shores for a limited time only. If you love crispy fried chick- en, then you won't get enough of the Double Down. The sandwich replaces the usual bread with two 'original recipe' chicken fillets and sand- wiched between them is bacon, cheese and BBQ sauce. There is also a spicy zinger version available for those who want to test their spice toler- ance. "There's been so much ex- citement for the Double Down since it first launched in the US in 2010. It was followed by the UK market last year also with a fantastic response. It has sold out in every country that it's been released in so we're posi- tive that it will also be popular in Malta," said Kurt Micallef, Food Chain Business manager.
