The former England, Manchester United and Everton striker is cur- rently playing his football with Major League Soccer outfit DC United. However, he could now make a surprise move to the Sky Bet Champion- ship to join the coaching staff of new Rams manger Phillip Cocu. The Dutchman took over in the summer, re- placing Rooney's former England teammate Frank Lampard, who left after a year in the job to take the reins at Chelsea. Cocu, speaking after Derby's 2-1 victory at Huddersfield Town in the Sky Bet Championship would not be drawn on the potential move for the former England captain. "We are not done in the transfer market as yet and hope to bring in two or three more players. How- ever I cannot comment on names," said Cocu. But when asked about if his coaching team could be added to, he said: "I think my coaching team is complete." It is understood that Der- by owner Mel Morris feels Rooney could provide the boost needed to finally get the Midlands outfit back into the Premier League after consecutive years of play-off heartbreak. Rooney has made no se- cret of his desire to go into coaching and Derby feel that could also be a factor.
