15 maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 21 AUGUST 2019 LISTINGS WHAT'S ON Theatre UNTIL AUGUST 31 Exploring The Phoenician Shipwreck off Xlendi Exploring the Phoenician Shipwreck off Xlendi, Gozo is the latest Heritage Malta exhibition. The exhibition focuses on the discovery of a Phoenician shipwreck which dates back to 700 BC. Discov- ered off Xlendi in 2007, at a depth of 110m, this intriguing ancient vessel has attracted worldwide attention since it is the oldest wreck ever found so far in this region. The ex- hibition was officially inau- gurated by Justyne Caruana, Minister of Gozo, Anton Re- falo, Chairman of Heritage Malta, and Timmy Gambin, Head of Heritage Malta's Un- derwater Cultural Heritage Unit, at the Gozo Area Office at the Ċittadella. The public will be able to visit this exhi- bition until the 31st August 2019. Festivals UNTIL 22 AUGUST Festa Titulari ta' Santa Marija fl-Imqabba 2019 In August, this quaint village hosts one of the largest and most popular feasts in Malta. The festa starts each night at 8pm around the village of Mqabba. The feast is a social gathering organised by various volunteers serving as an opportunity for locals and foreigners from all aspects of life to interact, share experiences and enjoy a major part of Malta's cultural heritage. AUGUST 24 Missio Pasta Night Missio Pasta Night takes place on Saturday 24th August at 7.30pm at Kalkara Parish Centre. It boasts great entertainment and good food. Tickets are priced at €15 for adults and €5 for kids or you can phone 20330015. Music 31 AUGUST Rock in the Forest 2019 in aid of Terry Time Trust The annual rock concert 'Rock in the Forest' is in its eight edi- tion and this year's event will be held on Saturday 31 August at Chateau Buskett, limits of Ra- bat. The 2019 event will be held in aid of the Terry Time Trust, with the goal of honouring the beloved DJ and radio manager Terry Farrugia, who passed away on 31 May this year and who had been battling cancer. The concert pays tribute to him and his hard work within the local music scene, as well as raiseing funds to help and sup- port his family with pending medical costs. This year's Rock in the Forest will be offering a true feast of classic, modern and contemporary rock hits, among them songs from the likes of Queen, Pink Floyd, Coldplay, Foo Fighters, The Killers, Zuc- chero, AC/DC, Metallica, Green Day, Bon Jovi, U2, Anouk, Alice Cooper, Lady Gaga, Oasis and many more. The concert fea- tures the participation of 19 lo- cal singers and musicians UNTIL 4 SEPTEMBER Ginn Jazz Nights The Gin Jazz Nights are back at Palazzo de Piro. The most awaited weekly event of the summer is here once again. For all those that love to enjoy some jazzy tunes while sipping G&Ts all night long, look no further. The Mdina bastions are waiting for you, within the charming Palazzo de Piro. AUGUST 24 Joseph Calleja Concert The island's annual staple Joseph Calleja concert and national spectacle will take place on the 24th August at the Granaries in Floriana. Home-grown leading and grammy-nominated lyric tenor Joseph Calleja will once again join musical forces with World renowned tenor Andrea Bocelli, famed for having one of the most beautiful voices on the planet. To date, the Italian household name has recorded 15 solo studio albums of both pop and classical music, three greatest hits albums, and nine complete operas, selling over. Tickets for the show are available from www. showshappening.com SEPTEMBER 1 The Annual Musical Concert The Choral and Orchestral Society Maria Bambina A.D. 1947 of Mellieħa will be holding its annual concert on Sunday 1st September, at 8:15pm in the Mellieħa Parish Square. This concert has become a trademark of the Victory day celebrations, having had its first edition in 1992. It will cover various musical styles, ranging from classical to contemporary music, and it is sure to please everyone's tastes. The main protagonists of this concert are going to be the choir and the orchestra, the singers Claire Caruana, Ludwig Galea, Sarah Bonnici, together with the Marsa Pipes and Drums and Paul Curmi Dancers under the musical direction of Mro. Michael Bonanno. The admission for this concert is free. 20-22 SEPTEMBER Malta Military Tattoo The Malta Military Tattoo 2019 will be held between the 20th and 22nd of September 2019 at St George's Square, Valletta. The Malta Military Tattoo, is a yearly event which features military bands and other elements which come together to provide a spec- tacular show for audiences of all ages. The music played combines popular tunes, with the more classical and are all performed in the context of a Military March parade to pro- vide a spectacular experience for everyone to enjoy.
