Floor covering (3) MAINLY SUNNY UV: 10 SUNNY UV: 9 30 0 / 23 0 31 0 / 23 0 THIS weekend the Malta Weightlifting organised the Mid-Summer competi- tions for the athletes that were doing a three-week intensive training under the guidance of renowned coach, Tamas Feher. The best results on the day came from Tenishia Thornton and Anton Micallef. Thornton 13 years old with a body weight of 44.72kg lifted in the 45kg category finishing up with 53kg Snatch and 65kg Clean & Jerk combining a to- tal of 118kg, she also set three national records in each age group both U-15, U-17, U-20 and U-23. With the total of 118kg she managed to score 198 points which makes her the first ever Maltese weightlifter reaching the Platinum level in the MWA ranking. Anton Micallef had a great competi- tion on the day. He competed in the 81kg category lifting 107,111, 114kg Snatch and 132, 137,141kg in the Clean & Jerk, he finish with a total of 255kg and scoring 310 points. He managed to set new seven national records, topping up the previous NR by impressive 14kg. In this competition he lifted enough to qualify for the Mediterranean cup an Olympic qualification event to be held in San Marino next October. There were other positive results from different athletes that registered a personal best on the day especially in Cadets under 11 year`s old category with Kim Camilleri Lagana scoring 121 points, Aliyah Gatt 95 points and Julia Grima 79 points. Yazmin Zammit Stevens had a suc- cessful training camp while she was re- covering from ankle injury she compet- ed in the Snatch phase by lifting 78kg, not to risk more she withdraw for Clean & Jerk to avoid un necessary strain. By this week she will travel to Romania for a training camp preparing for the World championship. A team of youths composed of Tenishia Thornton, Shel- by Mangion Vassallo, Rylee Borg and Tristan Zammit will travel to Latvia for a training camp.
