maltatoday | SUNDAY • 29 DECEMBER 2019 21 COMMERCIAL 17 Cyber risk in banking industry debated in conference THE Malta Bankers' Associa- tion (MBA) recently organised a half-day conference on Cyber Risk in the banking industry. This year's theme aimed at en- hancing awareness on this cur- rent risk, with a view of improv- ing its effective governance in credit institutions. The event was successful and achieved its aims, with over 100 participants attending the con- ference. The proceedings were kicked off with a welcome ad- dress by Marcel Cassar, MBA Chair and CEO of APS Bank plc. Cassar emphasised that it is critical for all relevant stake- holders not only to protect our banks and financial systems from the risk of cybercrime but also to be aware of the linkages with other technologies and channels that may compound the systemic risk. Cassar was then followed by an opening speech delivered by Daniela Bagnaschi, Head of Da- ta Management and Business Intelligence MFSA. Bagnaschi drew ties between the MFSA's vision and plans for risk mitigation in the cy- ber space, and elaborated on the crucial aspects of the triad comprising People, Process and Technology, as well as its impact on the cyber resilience framework of regulated entities. Other presentations were de- livered by Daniel German, In- formation Security Officer at the Central Bank of Malta, San- dra Saliba, Senior Analyst, Secu- rities and Markets Supervision at the MFSA, Daniele Frasca, Director, Cyber Risk Services Deloitte in Milan, Italy, Nancy Masschelein, Head of Section of Methodology and Data Man- agement DG III at the ECB and Alexandra Maniati, Head of Cy- bersecurity & Innovation at the EBF. An interesting and informa- tive section of the Conference was the panel discussion featur- ing Inspector Timothy Zammit, Malta Police Cyber Crime Unit; Nancy Masschelein, ECB; Al- exandra Maniati, EBF; Daniele Frasca, Deloitte, Italy and Mat- thew Yeomans from the Malta Government's Critical Infra- structure Protection Unit who substituted John Agius, Direc- tor of Unit who was unfortu- nately unable to attend. The panel discussion will be moder- ated by Rodney Naudi, Mem- ber of the MBA's Cybersecu- rity Sub-Committee and MBA representative on EBF's Cyber Security Working Group. ENEL Energia and Melita Italia have signed a partner- ship to offer high speed fibre internet services across Italy. As from 9 January 2020, with the launch of "Enel in Fibra by Melita", Enel Energia's domestic customers will be able to add Fibre-To-The-Home (FTTH) to their existing electricity and gas services at a cost of €27 per month. This new product, which brings together the qual- ity of Enel Energia's service in Italy with the tech- nology of Melita Italia, will provide a download con- nection of up to 1 Gigabit per second and an upload speed of up to 300 Megabit per second. "A high-speed internet connection enables custom- ers to fully benefit from innovations in smart home technology and the digitisation of the energy sector," said Nicola Lanzetta, Enel's Head of Market Italy. "Thanks to this collaboration with Melita Italia, which has significant experience in the telecom- munications sector, we will provide customers with a third commodity that is becoming central to our daily lives. Enel Energia is the Group company that operates in the free market in Italy, with over 12 mil- lion customers, including residential and business. Its offer is wide and flexible, a wide range of light and gas offers designed to meet every consumption need of families, companies, professionals, condo- miniums and public administrations. Enel Energia partners with Melita Italia to offer fibre services in Italy RE/MAX Malta's Real Estate Academy recently held a gradua- tion celebration for 35 of its sales associates, at the Hilton Malta. It marked their completion and suc- cessful qualification in the 'My Career' course and 'Succeed Men- toring Programme'. 'My Career' and the 'Succeed Mentoring Programme' are two foundational courses that have been part of the RE/MAX Malta Real Estate Academy curriculum since the company's infancy, and which form part of its learning path. RE/MAX Malta recently an- nounced that its appointed a train- ing council – made up of training managers and franchise owners – has the responsibility of con- stantly overseeing the structure of its training to ensure that the ori- entation, on-boarding, on-going mentoring and advanced training are inline with today's market. Af- ter all, training is a priority of the RE/MAX brand and this was con- firmed through a recent survey in which the company was voted to have the most-trained, reliable, trustworthy and professional real estate agents on the Maltese Is- lands. Speaking at the ceremony, RE/ MAX Malta Co-Founder Jeff Butt- igieg said: "Excellent training is one of the main pillars of RE/MAX and we are very proud to drive a culture of learning. "Our investment is on-going. In fact, we will be launching a number training events in 2020, along with at least two international events – to be held in Malta – at which we will host the Elite 100 franchise owners and Elite 200 agents con- ferences in Malta in 2020." Mark Ellul, RE/MAX Malta Training Manager, commented by informing the graduates that they are never alone when they are working with RE/MAX Malta. "The structure and culture of RE/ MAX is that, besides benefiting from ongoing training, the com- pany has an open-door policy that gives associates direct access to one-on-one coaching and sup- port."
