maltatoday | SUNDAY • 5 JANUARY 2020 7 CULTURE IN the year 2017, Schola Can- torum Jubilate, established the SCJ Children's Choir with the aim of educating young spir- ing musicians in a professional way while exposing them to the beauty of the choral world. In fact, these young choris- ters apart from learning new pieces, learn music theory, voice technique and sight singing. Results could be easily seen in such in a short time. The children have already participated in various con- certs in Gozo amongst which Lejla tar-Rebbiegħa with the participation of the Malta School of Music, Once upon a …song, Trail of Voices 2018 and lately in the first opera staged in Gozo for children, Bo-Peep, a little Opera for Children composed by the late Joseph Vella. Carols in the Cathedral was their latest appointment with the audience: a Christmastide concert held on Friday 27 at the Gozo Cathedral. This concert included various Christmas classics amongst which 'Silent Night', 'Joy to the World' and 'O Holy Night'. However, it also included contemporary compositions written specifically for chil- dren's choirs. Composers who were inter- preted included Sleeth, Estes, Jolliffe, Menken. The choir also interpreted 'Milied Malti', a medley of Maltese għanjiet arranged by Chris Muscat. The Echo String Ensemble was in attendance and per- formed other traditional car- ols with musical arrangements by Emese Tóth who was also responsible for the ensemble. The concert was under the direction of Marouska Attard and accompanied by pianist Amy Rapa. The SCJ Children's Choir in concert FOR the past two Fridays, Heritage Malta invited students aged five to ten who have the Heritage Malta Passport, to participate in Tell Me A Story. During the storytelling experi- ence, delivered by the Lignin Team, the children were invited not only to listen to the narratives but also to engage with them by making various sound effects, and also by sharing their own stories. The chosen stories had a Christ- mas theme, with a different story told per session. The storytelling sessions were held at the National Museum of Archaeology, in Re- public Street, Valletta. A small gift was given to each par- ticipant. Heritage Malta engages children in storytelling
