Late applications, against an additional €10 fee, will be ac- cepted until Monday, 20 Janu- ary. This year's edition of the Maltese Islands Festival will take place from 4 to 8 March 2020 at Spazju Kreattiv and The Phoenicia Ballroom in Valletta. It is an internationally-ac- credited performing arts fes- tival aimed at children and young people between the ages of 4 and 18. It takes the form of a com- petition, giving participants the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of an audience and panel of inter- national judges, all experts in their field. Over the years, the festival has welcomed hundreds of partici- pants in both solo and group performances, and across tens of categories of dance, drama, music and singing. Apart from the competitive element, it offers perform- ers in the various categories a platform to meet and ex- change ideas with their peers in a fun, artistic environment. The Maltese Islands Festival is a member of the British and International Federation of Festivals. Last call for applications for 2020 edition of the Maltese Islands Festival ON Sunday 26 January 2020 at 7.30pm, the Mediterranean Confer- ence Centre shall be presenting a concert with the participation of the Nissena Philharmonic from Italy, the Italian bass/baritone Salvatore Sal- vaggio, who tours Europe and Asia regularly, Maltese mezzo soprano Christine Dalli and Bulgarian/ Mal- tese soprano Andriana Yordanova conducted by one of Malta's leading musicians, Alexei Galea Cavallazzi. The programme will include some of the most popular overtures and arias from works by Rossini, Bellini, Mass- enet, Tchaikovsky and other compos- ers. Ever since the Mediterranean Con- ference Centre started its cultural programme it can boast not only of having supported Malta's best talent but also of a list of artists and per- formers who are world class as well as tours with orchestras from Russia, Italy, Georgia and Turkey. The MCC has also been instrumen- tal in disseminating Maltese music and presenting Maltese artists abroad. The opera and popular classics even- ing is aimed at all music lovers and es- pecially opera lovers. The programme includes works such as the overture to William Tell by Rossini and La Gazza Ladra, The Pol- onaise from Tchaikovsky's Onegin, arias from La Cenerentola and Don Pasquale as well as from Mozart's Don Giovanni and the famous casta Diva by Bellini.
