IBM-SPSS "Diverse World of Data Analysis" seminar People and Co. Ltd, an Advanced IBM Business Partner supplying statistics, data mining, data col- lection, survey research and text analysis solutions, recently held a seminar at SmartCity on solutions for Practical uses of IBM-SPSS. This seminar targeted analysts from a variety of businesses, indus- try and public sector organisations including iGaming executives, analysts, marketing personnel, re- searchers and government statisti- cians. David Cutajar, CEO - People & Co Ltd, provided a generic overview of IBM-SPSS Statistics and IBM-SPSS Modeller. He spoke about the IBM- SPSS approach to Data Mining and Predictive Analytics. He further elaborated how com- bination of IBM's latest Database technologies, Business Intelligence, Social Media Analytics, and Data & Text Mining/Statistics/Predictive Analytics is now becoming increas- ingly integrated as IBM's Business Analytics and Information Man- agement Solutions. The seminar included a number of guest speakers. Alphonse L. MacDonald, Former Director, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Geneva, Switzerland, spoke about how IBM-SPSS can be effectively employed in scenarios like "Predicting the spread of Eb- ola". Nikolai Livori, CEO - Yobetit, delivered a presentation about "The Significance of Market Movements within Sports Betting". Richard Bonello, Head of Technology and IS at Deloitte, discussed "Synthesiz- ing Text Mining Models for Privacy Related Inference" with particular reference to privacy issues on social media platforms. Data mining offers organisations many benefits, including a more detailed view of their customers or assets, a clearer view of current conditions and deeper insight into future events. By choosing a high-performance data mining tool, organisations can mine their data more efficiently and gain a significant return on in- vestment (ROI) by understanding the patterns in their data, allowing better decisions to be made which drive superior outcomes. IBM SPSS Modeller is a data- mining workbench that enables im- proved decision making with quick development of predictive models using business expertise and quick deployment of these models into business operations. Designed around the industry- standard CRISP-DM (Cross In- dustry Standard Process for Data Mining) model, IBM-SPSS Model- ler supports the entire data mining process, from business understand- ing through to deployment. IBM-SPSS Modeller uses a cli- ent/server architecture, allowing resource-intensive operations to be executed on a server. This results in increased performance because memory intensive operations can be done on the server without down- loading data to the client computer. IBM SPSS Modeller Server also pro- vides support for SQL optimization and in-database modeling capabili- ties, delivering further benefits in performance. Participants also had the oppor- tunity to interact with the technol- ogies presented during a hands-one workshop. People & Co. Ltd is also a Learn- Quest Education Partner offering full IBM Certification and many other ICT related courses.
