Salomone Marketing Ltd re- cently hosted an event at the Civil Service Sports Club in Valletta to launch their entry into the Small Domestic Appliance category. The focus of the evening was Food- Saver - the No. 1 vacuum sealing system. FoodSaver is a superior alter- native to traditional food stor- age methods allowing you to taste food fresh up to five times longer while retaining freshness and f lavour for up to three years. V.J. Salomone Marketing took the opportunity to also showcase other reputable brands within the Jarden Consumer Products port- folio namely Breville, Oster and Crock-Pot. Leo Brincat, Minister for the En- vironment, Sustainable Develop- ment and Climate Change opened the event with a brief welcome note, followed by VJ Salomone Marketing Ltd Executive Director Victor Galea. In his speech Mr. Galea highlighted the multiple benefits of this food saving sys- tem, before making reference to Minister Brincat's initiative to set up a working group with the aim of making practical recommenda- tions to reduce food waste. "As well as providing households with an efficient way to preserve food, the FoodSaver system offers an effective solution to help re- duce food waste, saving money for households and reducing waste which ultimately goes to landfills" explained Galea. Chef patron Michael Cauchi then led product demonstrations from his kitchen highlighting the efficiency of these products and preparing food that was immedi- ately served to guests. HSBC Malta supports local companies' international expansion through Go Global programme Two doctoral graduates collect money for RIDT The prospect to turn a local busi- ness into a global conglomerate im- proved significantly for 17 Maltese companies after they were selected by the Go Global Programme - an initiative managed by Malta Enter- prise and supported by HSBC Bank Malta. The owners and representatives of the selected businesses joined a cer- emony to mark the first wave of as- sistance. Launched in May 2014, Go Global is designed to help first time exporters or enterprises whose ex- port revenue is currently less than 20 per cent. Michel Cordina, Head of Com- mercial Banking HSBC Malta, said, "These firms stand to gain from HSBC's global knowledge and con- nectivity as they shape the next course of their expansion beyond Malta." Go Global is supported by HSBC's Malta Trade for Growth Fund, an initiative which aims to help Mal- tese businesses thrive by connect- ing them to international opportu- nities. A key feature of the Go Global Programme is a free diagnosis of export readiness, an export man- agement Master Class, as well as assistance for initiatives to build internal capacity or commission market research. Through HSBC's Malta Trade for Growth Fund, eligible businesses are able to gain a discount in pric- ing if they switch from a traditional overdraft to a structured trade finance product such as Export Loans or Invoice Finance. Two doctoral graduates, Dr Ales- sio Magro and Dr Jackson Said, who have recently graduated from the Facult y of Science (Universit y of Malta), organised a graduation part y for their colleagues, family and friends, in which they placed a donation box with all proceedings going towards RIDT. They collected a total of €1000 for research. The event featured a full day of workshops about creative thinking, the importance of IT to in- crease employability, available careers in the IT sector and the opportunities available for all young entrepreneurs. The event also served as a platform for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Micro- soft and AIESEC. The purpose of the Memorandum is to formalize a framework of collaboration between AIESEC and Microsoft to promote, evaluate, implement and participate in the programs, training, resources and technological tools that form part of the YouthSpark Initiatives. The MOU was signed between Adrianna Zammit, Country Manager Cyprus & Malta and Elizabeth Pulo, National Business Development Man- ager of AIESEC Malta in the presence of Evarist Bartolo, Minister for Educa- tion and Employment. "We are delighted with this oppor- tunity to be signing a new MOU with AIESEC. Microsoft YouthSpark and AIESEC share the same objectives in creating opportunities for youth in Education, Employment and Entre- preneurship. The first YouthSpark Live event last April was the start of a collaboration and it was only natural to cement our commitment to work together in delivering local programs and events through this MOU," ex- plained Adrianna Zammit during the signing of the MOU agreement. This had also led in the participa- tion of Microsoft in Youth to Business Forum, an event building a bridge be- tween youths and the business world, powered by AIESEC. "This MOU will see both sides co- operating on a number of areas such as youth employment, further edu- cation and entrepreneurship, youth empowerment programs, social in- clusion and employability youth pro- grams for other organizations, public entities and student associations and to act as trusted advisors in youth- related matters. We will also promote ICT for youth development, education with the aim of supporting the devel- opment of improved student learning and we shall create joint development projects and marketing, advertis- ing and media initiatives to promote awareness on the situation of youth and opportunities in Malta," added Zammit. "Signing this MOU between Mi- crosoft and AIESEC is a huge step for us. We believe that development of leadership is crucial for youth em- powerment and development, and as AIESEC we deliver this through our exchange programs with their unique value. A collaboration between Mi- crosoft and AIESEC with their own delivery methods one being through ICT and the other being through ex- changes allow us to not only join our resources but to also support each other's mission, because ultimately we have a common vision, to empower youths of Malta," added Elizabeth Pulo, National Business Development Manager for AIESEC Malta. Gege Gatt, Director for Strategy & Business Development at ICON led the track relating to "Careers in Tech- nology". Commenting on the event he stated, "ICON feels passionately about assisting young people find and capture a career in technology. In this regard we are entirely aligned with Microsoft's vision to close the digital divide and assist young people explore the interesting opportunities within the ICT industry." In its support towards innovation and competitiveness, Microsoft's aim is to promote technology as a catalyst for progress on key societal challenges with government, partners, organiza- tions and citizens helping them fully harness the power of technology to accelerate progress competitiveness and opportunities for expansion in Malta.
