Emirates, a global connector of people, places and economies, con- tributes to the direct, indirect and induced employment of 660 Maltese persons in Dubai and for its daily op- erations in Malta. Across the EU in 2013/14, Emirates supported 85,100 jobs, equivalent to €6.8 billion GDP of the total EU GDP. In addition, Emirates' Airbus A380 deliveries for the same period supported 41,000 jobs, equivalent to €3.4 billion GDP. These figures result from a socio- economic impact study measuring Emirates' contribution to the Eu- ropean economy conducted by the leading European consultancy Fron- tier Economics. In addition to check-in staff and back-office positions, the airline con- tributes to the Maltese economy on a daily basis through purchases of a range of goods and services that include airport and landing fees, ground handling and baggage han- dling, fuel, catering, IT services, ad- vertising and m a i n t e n a n c e services. This activity, which has a multiplier effect through the Maltese economy, also includes crew layover hotel a c c o m m o d a - tion expenses for its daily pi- lots and cabin crew staying overnight in Malta, as well as coach and car rentals. "We're very proud to have worked with Emirates for the past 17 years as one of our net- work carriers. Emirates offers a daily connection from Malta to Dubai via Cyprus and is also the only airline on our schedule that offers a First Class experience to our passengers," said Malta International Airport CEO Mr Alan Borg. "The commitment of global brands like Emirates, helps position Malta International Airport as a key avia- tion player. We look for- ward to keep building on this great success story to- gether." Ranked as a major sched- uled carrier out of Malta, Emirates links eastbound travellers from Malta with over 100 destinations via Dubai. Furthermore, it serves as the ideal car- rier for business and leisure travellers from the Far East to visit Malta. In addition to passenger service, Emirates SkyCargo has a 13 tonnes belly-hold capacity on the Airbus 330-200, further sustaining trade prospects for Malta across the Emirates network. Key exports from Malta include phar- maceuticals, electronic products and refrigerated goods such as fresh fish, while some of the main imports are technical and mechanical equip- ment, textiles, live fish, fresh food from the Far East and fresh fish from the Middle East. Sir Tim Clark, President of Emir- ates Airline, commented: "Emirates is fully committed to the European market. The relationship goes back to 1987 when we first started flying from Dubai to London Gatwick. Mal- ta was the 11th European destination and the 35th country worldwide. "Today, Emirates operate over 350 passenger flights a week from Eu- rope, providing global connectivity via our hub in Dubai. Emirates' eco- nomic impact is significant. Based on Frontier's report, we supported over one hundred thousand jobs across Europe through our operations and our aircraft purchases from Airbus. By stimulating demand for travel and cargo, especially in markets under- served by other airlines, Emirates contributes to the economies of the communities we serve," said Sir Tim Clark. One Spirit Personal Development, Malta's premier public seminar and workshop provider for the last 11 years, and who have been educating those who have been seeking to de- velop their personal and professional lives, by bringing the top technolo- gies for rapid personal growth to the island, is now turning its attention to addressing the growing issues of work place stress. Jackey Backman, senior director, has been consulting high level execu- tives for local corporations on topics ranging from the highly desirable and highly sought after Emotional Intelligence skills as well as offer- ing Neuro Linguistics Programming certification to the public with now well over 50 locally certified NLP practitioners on the island. Based on the insight gained, One Spirit is launching their 'More to Life' campaign and evening event designed to help people learn to be more effective and avoid stress by balancing the five key areas of life and learning to use the power of their mind combined with hands on techniques and strategies to get to, through, and over any life situation whether at home or work. Paralleled with minister Helena Dalli's recent release of a new book on dealing with work place stress, Jackey Backman is excited to be heading One Spirit's initiative "We've been educating Maltese on how to better use their brains and their minds suc- cessfully on Malta now for over 10 years and this is the perfect time to address the issue of stress in people's lives especially since the Maltese gov- ernment is taking action as well." A survey conducted in 2012 stated that over 70% of Maltese respondents believed workplace stress would rise over the next 5 years and recent evi- dence among EU members states has classified exposure to psychosocial risks as the main workplace health and safety risk (Euro barometer - Working Conditions, 2014) Backman, having worked with countless individuals and local busi- nesses such as BOV, Betsson, and Sa- nofi, says that there is plenty of evi- dence that living a high performance life doesn't have to be stressful. "The problem isn't that people can't live a high performance life by having great relationships, vibrant health, tons of energy, earn as much money as they want, all the while keeping their spiritual values intact. They can. The problem is that they have to learn how. It's just not as simple as buying a day planner, or scheduling appoint- ments. When we aren't getting the results we want in life, it's always in- evitably based in our values and be- liefs. And those are the things that make up the very essence of human beings. Learning how to manage and honour our values will bring us the joy we want…guaranteed. "Helping people do so in a way that is respectful to their over all well be- ing is what we love doing most. "We absolutely love teaching peo- ple how they can use what they al- ready have right on their shoulders to be the best they can be." says Backman. One Spirit Personal Development and Backman will be holding an introduction to their High Perform- ance Life event being held this May in Malta called "More to Life". The event, taking place on 11 April, is an evening presentation for anyone wanting to get a taste of what it is all about to live a high per- formance life while being perfectly balanced and stress free.
