In fact both coaches made use of all players at their disposal while allow- ing a rest to the players, which could prove to be instrumental in the play- offs. Depiro started the match by scoring the first five points, with Luxol reply- ing with 13 through points from Stef- fi De Martino. Luxol kept controlling the proceedings and ended the first session 18-8. Luxol increased their lead at the start of the second session going 30-10 ahead. Depiro replied with points coming through Siarre Evans however Luxol maintained their lead going in at 34-17. Depiro started brighter after the start of the third session with a run of 11-4 through points from Nicole Agius, Gaby Mifsud and Evans. De Martino and Sarah Pace scored for Luxol with the score reading 50-36. In the final session, Depiro again went on the offensive and made an 11-0 break through points from Evans and Brincat to reduce the gap to 47-50. Luxol replied with points from Laekitha Alston and Beverlee Zammit. Depiro had three pointers from Martina Mifsud and Brincat. Depiro restored the match on the ninth minute of the session before Brincat handed Depiro the win 60- 58. Karim Bellarabi's goal 10 min- utes before half-time was enough to earn Roger Schmidt's men all three points and put their mid- week Champions League disap- pointment behind them, estab- lishing a six-point gap between the two clubs in the race for a top-four finish. With eight games of the season remaining, Schalke now see their hopes of playing in Europe's elite club competition for a third year in a row dangling by a thread, while Roberto Di Matteo's men must also look over their shoulder to ensure they do not lose a place in the Europa League either. Borussia Dortmund heaped the pressure on Hannover coach Tay- fun Korkut with a 3-2 win at the Niedersachsenstadion which re- vives their own hopes of qualif y- ing for Europe next season. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was on target twice for Jurgen Klopp's men, who were knocked out of the Champions League by Juventus on Wednesday. Shinji Kagawa netted their other goal with Lars Stindl bringing the hosts level until shortly after they lost Leonardo Bittencourt to a red card. With only 10 men, the Reds ca- pitulated, extending their wait for a first win in 2015 and plunging even closer to the relegation zone, in spite of Stindl's second late on. Cologne came from behind to draw 1-1 against Werder Bremen - their seventh home stalemate of the season. A late Matthias Lehmann pen- alty earned the hosts a point after Davie Selke's 27th-minute goal had given Bremen the lead at the Mungersdorferstadion. Victory would have taken Bremen to within two points of the top six, but they instead remain four adrift with their declared hopes of quali- f ying for Europe suffering a minor setback. Freiburg picked up a crucial win in their battle against relegation, beating Augsburg 2-0 to move out of the relegation zone on Satur- day. Goals in the final 20 minutes from Jonathan Schmid and Nils Petersen was enough to earn Christian Streich's men only their fifth win of the season, taking them above both Hamburg and Paderborn and out of the bottom three. Defeat dents Augsburg's hopes of qualif ying for Europe next season, although they remain a point clear of Hoffenheim in the top six. Stuttgart came from behind to pick up their first win of 2015, beating Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1 at the Mercedes-Benz-Arena. Haris Seferovic gave Frank- furt the lead just after half-time against a side who, despite victory, continue to prop up the rest of the Bundesliga. However, two goals in three min- utes from Daniel Ginczek turned things round for Stuttgart and a third from Alexandru Maxim 10 minutes from time gave the long- suffering home fans some rare joy. The win still leaves Huub Ste- vens' men at the foot of the ta- ble, but just two points now from safety. Paderborn slipped into the bot- tom two after being held to a goal- less draw at home by 10-man Hof- fenheim. After surviving a strong Hoffen- heim assault in the first half, Pa- derborn searched for a winner in the second 45 minutes, but found visiting goalkeeper Oliver Bau- mann in fine form. Not even after Ermin Bicakcic was shown a red card in the 65th minute could Paderborn find a winner as their hopes of avoiding the drop suffered a setback. Hoffenheim, meanwhile, missed an opportunity to move into the top six, but will nevertheless be pleased with a point in the cir- cumstances. On Friday night, Sebastian Lang- kamp grabbed a last-gasp winner for Hertha Berlin as they piled the pressure on 10-man Hamburg at the Volksparstadion. The Hertha defender headed in the only goal of the game only minutes after the hosts had been reduced to 10 men with Cleber given his marching orders for a second yellow card. The game between two of the Bundesliga's strugglers had seemed set to end in a stalemate until Langkamp's 86th-minute winner gave the Old Lady support- ers reason to cheer.
