Events 46 maltatoday, SUNDAY, 14 JUNE 2015 The business of today is fast, dynamic and on the move. Executives are not stuck to their desks any longer but are now mobile, setting meetings outside the office and bringing in new busi- ness. Flexibility in communication between office staff is crucial but to what extent can a company afford to subsidize mobile phone bills and landline phone charges? Enter ARYA. The new Virtual Office Telephony System. Now you can create a more widespread office telephony system without investing in any hardware. This is because most of the existing communication devices in the office can be easily transformed into an AR- YA phone extension. This includes mobile phones, landline phones and even a simple headphone set attached to your PC/MAC. With ARYA, your mobile phone can become your office extension. This means that incoming calls to the office landline number can be transferred for free to any device connected to ARYA, including mo- bile phones which are at least 3G enabled. With ARYA, your staff are always at their desk, even when on outside meetings. ARYA is not only about phone calls. We have introduced modules such as Video Conferencing and SMS. Or- ganising a surprise birthday cake for the boss? Send all the staff an instant SMS to join in the fun….all except the boss of course. This can be extended to clients and entire databases. With ARYA's Video Conferencing module, meetings can be done face-to-face without leaving your desk, or if you want to rope in another staff mem- ber during an outside visit, ARYA can make it happen with the touch of a button. PABX systems are a thing of the past. ARYA is a product of OZONE Ltd, purveyors of telecommunication and networking services in Malta and Gozo. Ozone Ltd CEO, Mr. Robert Runza comments, "We have come up with a product that suits the needs and pockets of most SMEs and start- ups. We believe we made a big step in transforming office telecommunica- tion from being a 'necessary expense' to an 'excellent business tool'." All employees – from student leaders, to teachers, adminis- tration staff and management - participated heartily in the 'dress down' initiative where hot dogs were sold at the com- pany's premises and all pro- ceeds were saved in the CSR pot. IELS organises various initiatives every year to raise funds and the global sum collected will be presented to identified charitable insti- tutions at Christmas time. Beneficiaries this year will be the Ursuline Sisters in Sliema who look after 28 children between the ages of a few months old and 3 years old. In all, the Ursuline Sisters run four homes; apart from the one in Sliema, they have others in G'Mangia, Tarxien and Valletta, looking after 92 children from almost new- borns to 16-year-olds. 500 children aged between six and 12 years participated in the third edition of the Nesquik Underwater Festival organised by Nestlé Malta at the Malta National Aquarium on Saturday 30 May. The Festival provided an oppor- tunity for Nesquik Club members to learn more about marine envi- ronment conservation and sea life. For the third consecutive year, Nestlé Malta transformed an out- door area at the Malta National Aquarium into a purpose-built Nesquik village to house the Nesquik Marine Festival. All par- ticipating children were also given free, guided access to the Malta National Aquarium as part of the event. The educational workshops in- cluded presentations by Shark Lab and Prof. Alan Deidun. Shark Lab is a non-profit voluntary organisa- tion dedicated to research, educa- tion and raising greater awareness about all Sharks, Rays, Skates and Chimaeras around Malta and the Mediterranean. Prof Deidun provided presenta- tions on the national marine parks around Malta and Gozo as well as practical information on jellyfish and how to treat jellyfish bites. In addition, Nestlé Malta handed out an informative and educational booklet to each child. The 16-page booklet consists of information about corals, coral reefs and their families, complete with tips about preserving reefs and ways how to protect these environments. The booklet also contains educa- tional games sections and puzzles related to marine life to help chil- dren understand the importance of protecting the environment. The Nesquik annual educational events, now in their fifth year, form part of the Nestlé corporate ethos to provide children with healthy, safe and engaging opportunities to learn about their environment and healthy lifestyles. Commenting about the fifth Nesquik annual event, Melania Calleja Pellicano, Nestlé Malta Group Product Manager said, "The cycle of life is such that to- day's children will be tomorrow's leaders and parents. The Nesquik events are designed to contrib- ute towards a more responsible generation and children are our primary audience to instil posi- tive educational messages in them about caring for our planet from an early age. "Environmental conservation and education are important values that we seek to impart to Nesquik Club members during the various events held throughout the year." This complex web of operations – known as supply chain management – is fast becoming the pivotal func- tion of successful business prac- tices. To provide a knowledge-based perspective on the evolution of supply chain, the organisers of the 1st Logistics Managers & Practi- tioners Forum have invited Hay- dn Sandvig of Logistics Learning Alliance (LLA) from UK to share his experience of mentoring in supply chain and logistics train- ing. Sandvig, who brings a mix of government and commercial sec- tor approach to supply chain and logistics training, will hold a free seminar on "Building a logistics and supply chain knowledge so- ciety" on Thursday 18 June 2015, ahead of the start of the Forum on Friday 19 June 2015. "Increased integration and col- laboration amongst various sup- ply chain partners necessitates that we scrutinise the supply chain contexts at the knowledge level and move beyond assets, da- ta and documentary information. I plan to propose to the attendees in Malta that there are indeed a number of knowledge manage- ment concepts that could be use- ful to supply chain," said Sandvig. LLA, which has achieved world- wide recognition for its contribu- tion to developing the capacity and skills of supply chain and lo- gistics professionals in both the commercial and humanitarian worlds, is one of a number of in- ternational organisations attend- ing the 1st Logistics Managers & Practitioners Forum. Another notable international participant at the Forum will be the Char- tered Institute of Professional Development, UK. Supported by HSBC Commer- cial Banking Malta, the first Lo- gistics Managers & Practitioners Forum takes place on the back of a Transport Managers & Practi- tioners Forum, which was held in October 2014 on the sidelines of Malta's first transport and logistics awards, the Translog Awards. TransLog events are organised by Support and Supply Manage- ment Group (SSM) and market- ing communications agency BPC International.
