Tel: 21492212 Kia sets 2030 target for fully autonomous cars Kia aims to have fully autonomous cars on sale by 2030. The company announced its goal at the Con- sumer Electronics show as it launched its new Drive Wise brand, which will cover future tech- nologies such as hands-off cruise control and lane keeping systems which react to their surround- ings. Vehicle owners will interact with Drive Wise tech through a mixture of apps and gesture control. Their cars will identify them through fingerprint recognition – instantly loading their software pref- erences as they climb aboard. Drive Wise functions will also include self-park- ing and a safety programme designed to halt the vehicle if the driver falls asleep. Kia says the Drive Wise brand will bring ad- vanced safety functions to future models, as well as alleviating the boredom of long journeys and encouraging owners to relate to their cars in a whole new way. The company was recently licensed by the state of Nevada to test autonomous cars on the road, and has started running a hands-free soul there as the next step on the way to bringing these technologies to market.
