28.9% (-0.4p) Trust rating January 2016, and difference over last survey in October SURVEY PGS 12-13 37.6% (-2.4p) Newspaper post YOUR FIRST READ AND FIRST CLICK OF THE DAY WWW.MALTATODAY.COM.MT Loan-words will make them cry... maltatoday SUNDAY • 17 JANUARY 2016 • ISSUE 845 • PUBLISHED EVERY WEDNESDAY AND SUNDAY Inside the new academic rift over the Maltese language JAMES DEBONO DESPITE his mid-term blues, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat still enjoys a convincing nine- point lead over Opposition leader Simon Busut- til in MaltaToday's latest survey. But Muscat also saw his trust lead decline by two points over the last survey last Octo- ber. Compared to last year Muscat has seen his trust lead slashed by six points. At 8.7 points the trust gap between the two leaders is the lowest ever registered in MaltaToday's surveys. Respondents were asked which of the two political leaders they trusted most and for which party they would vote if an election were to be held tomorrow. The survey showed Muscat commanding a larger lead over Busuttil than that enjoyed by his party over the PN. Significantly, Labour leads by fewer than three points over the PN when it comes to voting intentions, down from a four-point lead in June 2015 and a nine-point lead a year ago. For the first time the difference between the two parties' points falls within the sur- vey's margin of error. Additionally, the survey registers the nar- rowest gap – 2.6 points – between the two parties since January 2015, when Labour was leading by a staggering nine points.
