Pres- ently this sport is gaining popularity again following the refurbishment of the MX Track performed by an excelent MX Track Builder Angelo Cinque- mani. Angelo performed the alterations himself during a four day practical session at the track where he operated different machinery put at his disposal by very obliging spon- sors. The results of these track modificaions resulted mainly in much fewer injuries of the MX riders both yound and older too. The mods also served as a very good testing ground for our MX competitors in such a way that our competitors ended up in winning Podium placings in the Italian Federa- tion (FMI) Regional MX Cham- pionship mainly taking part in Sicily and others in Southern Italy too. Entry permits to these MX races and other non-Offroad Motorcycle sport require the competitors to be in posses- sion of an FMI Driving Licence which is not easy to obtain as, one, it costs money and two, the competitor needs to sit for a number of medical tests relative to the sport he is going to practise. The good part of this all is that when the rider obtains his licence, he is also automatically insured against any injury which he may sustain during Official Train- ing/practice sessions and also during the race. ASMK has been engaged in getting the licences for Moto- cross, Enduro, MiniMoto and also for Drag Racing Bikers who competed in the European Drag Racing Championships and Cups with such races taking place in Europe. Among the Licensed riders there were some youths too and though four of these riders were aged 11 to 14 years they were also Licensed by ASMK-FMI fol- lowing their parents' consent. All three young riders won podium finishes at one time or another in their respective sport. One of these brave boys is now in the sixteen (16) years bracket and he is doing his best together with his manager and the support of ASMK to introduce himself in the FMI Italian Formula championship for 600cc circuit bikes. This young rider Ryan Faenza is very promising and following Time Attach and Track Day events on Sicilian ground, his lap times are with the very best. ASMK is really concerned about the Maltese bikers who want to experience their mo- torcycle skills in Europe. Last June ASMK organized in Malta the FIM-Europe 21st General Assembly over a period of four days with the participation of almost 300 delegates from 47 Motorcycling Federation countries. Safety of bikers on the road took a big piece of the time allocated. Also, the use of electronics in motor- cycles and motorcycle riding were discussed and decided in Malta. TM also participated in this Road Safety Session. Motorcycle touring, raduno and the use of motorcycles and scooters safety were also dealt with in depth. ASMK – the Malta Federa- tion for Motorcycling is very busy organizing Motocross at Ta' Qali. Trials competitions and Moto-Enduro races are mainly held in various sites of the Maltese islands. It is interesting to note that when Enduro races are held in Gozo normally some riders cross the Malta-Gozo channel to par- ticipate in these races. These are very interesting to watch and we are proud that we are building very good riders in these disciplines. Challenging Enduro and Trials on overseas shores are also in the pipeline together with much more for the Maltese riders and bikers.
