Winemaker Julia Walch in Malta JULIA Walch, from the famed Alto Adige pro- ducer Elena Walch, recently visited our island to conduct a wine tasting session at Farsonsdirect and a wine-pairing dinner at The Fork & Cork in Rabat, both events hosted by Farsons Beverage Imports Company (FBIC) Limited. Encouraging quality and innovation, Elena Walch stood at the head of the Alto Adige quality revolution and has gained local and internation- al esteem for her efforts. An architect by trade, Elena Walch married into one of the oldest and most significant wine families of the region and brought new, modern concepts to the traditional establishment. Now, the responsibility for the family business is being put into the hands of the daughters, Julia and Karoline Walch, already the fifth generation. The philosophy of the estate is dedicated to its terroir – the idea that wines must be the individual expression of their soil, climate and cultivation in the vineyard – and that this must be maintained according to principles of sustainability and passed on to the next gen- eration. The firm belief that the quality of wine is created in the vineyard requires un- compromising work, taking into account the individuality of each vineyard. With 55 hectares in cultiva- tion, Elena Walch belongs to the most im- portant protagonists of Alto Adige winemaking. The wines presented during the dinner included the Cabernet Sauvignon Riserva Castel Ringberg 2011 and Beyond the Clouds 2013, a cult wine awarded top-points countless times and featured in Wine Spectator's Top 100 Italian Wines. FBIC Ltd, a member of the Farsons Group, imports and distributes Elena Walch wines locally. They are available in se- lected restaurants, wine boutiques and The Wine Shop at Farsonsdirect in Mriehel www.farsonsdirect.com Premium Single Malts at Palazzo Parisio PALAZZO Parisio, in collabo- ration with Farsons Beverage Imports Company (FBIC) Limited, recently hosted a premium single malts tasting session at their Luna Lounge. A tasting session that will surely be remembered for the outstanding lineup of highly sought-after and hard-to- find whiskies – The Glenlivet 18YO, Isle of Jura 21YO, The Dalmore King Alex III and The Macallan Rare Cask. The excellent 18YO single malt from The Glenlivet is a classic Speyside dram and is a winner of two golds at the International Wine and Spir- its Competition, full and rich on the palate, with notes of chew y, tannic oak, Manuka honey, walnuts and orange peels. Isle of Jura 21YO was dis- continued in 2009 due to low stocks but returned in award- winning form with an explo- sion of soft citrus fruits, yet spicy and warm, as the lin- gering wood tones unfold in perfect harmony. The Dalmore King Alex III was created by the Master Distiller at The Dalmore and is only single malt in the world to unite a unique six cask finish for one outstanding achievement. Spirits matured in ex-bourbon casks, Matusa- lem oloroso sherry butts, Ma- deira barrels, Marsala casks, Port pipes and Cabernet Sau- vignon wine barriques are combined in perfect harmony to create a uniquely complex, yet smooth single malt. This is the embodiment of brave creativity and a lifetime's ex- perience – The Dalmore King Alex III. The Macallan Rare Cask is comprised of whiskies drawn from 16 different Sherry cask styles, chosen by Macallan's Master Whisky Maker Bob Dalgarno. A high proportion of these casks are first fill, and has resulted in a rich, spicy Speyside single malt, bursting with honeyed rai- sin, root ginger and decadent chocolate notes. FBIC Limited, a member of the Farsons Group, imports and distributes The Glenliv- et, Isle of Jura, The Dalmore and The Macallan whiskies locally. All are available at Farsonsdirect in Mriehel w w w.farsonsdirect.com.
