The legendary classic rock band Uriah Heep will be performing live at Ta' Liesse, Grand Harbour, Valletta. Along with Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, Uriah Heep are one of the top rock bands which defined that sound of classic rock. Songs like The Wizard, Easy Livin', Sunrise, Sweet Freedom, Gypsy, Look At Yourself and many others remain some of the best of all time. Generation after genera- tion of fans continued to love their music and to date they have sold over 40 million albums worldwide. Uriah Heep have rewarded their worldwide fans with constant touring around the globe. After over four decades of touring they are showing no signs of slowing down. Over the last year, they have filled arena-sized venues in the Balkans, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Russia and Scandi- navia. To make this gig truly special, and a homecoming of sorts, Uriah Heep's keyboardist extraordinaire is Phil Lanzon, who is of Maltese descent. The Maltese bands Crux and No- mad Son will be opening. Tickets are €20 and are available from www.ticketline. com.mt This concert is being organised by the festivals division of Arts Council Malta and is supported by the Malta Gaming Authority and Hard Rock Café Swiss conductor for third MPO piano concert FOLLOWING the first two con- certs in the Piano Concerto series, Swiss conductor and flutist Kas- par Zehnder will be in Malta to conduct the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra in Concert Three of the same series featuring at Teatru Manoel on Friday, May 27. This concert is being produced in col- laboration with this same theatre. This concert consists of an eclec- tic programme of interesting and challenging works, kicking off with Alex Vella Gregory's Rhytmii Vi- tae, followed by Francis Poulenc's Concerto for Two Pianos, which marked the beginning of the com- poser's 'great period'. Marco Riv- oltini and Natascha Chircop will perform as soloists in this piece. The last two works in the con- cert are Benjamin Britten's Scot- tish Ballade and Anton Dvorak's monumental Symphony Nr 6 in D Major, which captures both the Czech national style and standard Germanic classical-romantic form. Zehnder is artistic director of the Biel Solothurn Symphony Orches- tra and of the Murten Classics Fes- tival, and maintains close ties with the Paul Klee Centre in Bern as member of the Ensemble Paul Klee after having served as music direc- tor between 2005 and 2012.
