maltatoday, SUNDAY, 4 JUNE 2017 Events 45 Palumbo Malta Shipyard beat off stiff competition to secure three important projects that entailed ex- tensive works on two luxury super yachts and a cruise liner. The shipyard, which has just placed third worldwide for cruise ship refitting, recently dedicated 1,000 people over a span of just 12 days to refurbish the liner Mein Schiff 1, which belongs to TUI Cruises. The project included underwater painting, special maintenance of lifeboat cranes with relevant tests, tank steel works, navigation equip- ment replacement, propulsions, steering overhauls and other re- pairs. This required a huge logistics team and detailed planning, but all the tasks were completed success- fully and within the stipulated time, a spokeswoman for the shipyard said. This project ties in with Palumbo Malta Shipyard's goal to this year secure second place in the cruise ship refitting ranking carried out by the prestigious international trade magazine Seatrade Cruise News. "We are working tirelessly with a passionate team of workers to con- tinue attracting business to the is- land and position ourselves as one of the top shipyards worldwide," Palumbo Group CEO Antonio Palumbo said. Apart from further pro- jects, the shipyard's Super Yacht Yard focused its ener- gies on two of the largest and most luxurious super yachts — MY Alkhor and the MY Serene. The 134-metre MV Serene, which can sleep 14 guests and is capable of carrying up to 52 crew on board was docked in Malta for five days. This was the fifth visit to the shipyard fol- lowing its refit carried out last year. Meanwhile, the smaller 47-metre long Alkhor was in Malta for 45 days, 18 of which were spent in a dry-dock. The works carried out in- cluded pipe work jobs, paint repairs on top sides and superstructures, the cleaning and painting of the underwater area, servicing of both main engines and works on the air- conditioning system, among others. Kinder+Sport Tennis Trophy is the first international tennis tour- nament for boys and girls aged 9 to 16, organised by Sports Events in collaboration with the Ital- ian Tennis Federation (FIT) and Kinder+Sport. A unique event that will touch 9 nations in 2017: Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Israel, Luxem- bourg, Malta, Principality of Mo- naco and Hungary. An exciting circuit with thousands of young participants, where the winners of each of the 20 tournaments will challenge each other in Italy dur- ing the International Master in Rome, from 25 to 30 August 2017. The initiative is an idea by ten- nis pro Rita Grande, Italian for- mer champion, in collaboration with Kinder+Sport Joy of moving, aimed at boosting active lifestyles and spreading this sport discipline amongst the new generations. An event born in Italy, which already counted 28 tournaments and 3,000 subscribers in its first edi- tion in 2006, and has been grow- ing steadily in time; the eleventh edition in 2016 boasted 141 tour- naments in 19 Italian regions and more than 18,000 subscribers. For the first time this year, the tournament expands to the in- ternational circuit, in order to develop and spread with an even bigger focus the core values of the Kinder+Sport project, such as trust in oneself and in others, integration, friendship and re- spect. The matches will be rather unique, as they will be played without umpires: the young play- ers will have the possibility to en- joy themselves and give their very best while guided by a highly edu- cational fair play code. In the past years, finalists also had the chance to meet several world tennis icons: Francesca Schiavone, Flavia Pennetta, Sara Errani, Jo Wilfried Tsonga, Fabio Fognini, Simone Bolelli, Corrado Barazzutti and Nicola Pietrangeli. Find the complete tournament calendar and much more on the official website www.tennistro- phy.com Kinder+Sport Joy of moving is an international Ferrero Group Social Responsibility Project that aims to bring joy of movement into the life of every child. The project promotes and en- courages physical activity across the younger generations, inspir- ing children and young people worldwide to adopt active life- styles from an early age, so that it becomes an integral part of their daily routine. Kinder+Sport's ambitious goal is to increase and improve the time that young people spend on physi- cal activity, bringing the project to as many countries as possible, in collaboration with qualified part- ners and experts: Institutions, 4 Olympic Committees, 126 Sports Federations and Associations, and the prestigious ISF (International School Sport Federation), that organises and promotes games and competition between schools around the world. The programme supports physi- cal education programs, provides schools with technical equipment, promotes student championships, supports sports events for chil- dren, organises multi-disciplinary campuses to involve children in sports, cooperates with athletes and former champions as "am- bassadors'' of active lifestyles and supports research projects aimed at increasing awareness of the benefits of an active life. First established in 2005, the project has grown steadily ever since, with the aim of reaching out to the highest possible number of children and teenagers all over the world. Today Kinder+Sport works on a global scale, involves 25 countries and gets more than 4 million chil- dren moving every year.
