It was officially unveiled by representatives from KTM two weeks ago, while the official KTM stunt rider, Rok Bagoroš, was wowing our islands with his spec- tacular tricks and stunts. True riders know the impor- tance of balance between power and precision in a bike of such calibre, and this is exactly what KTM have managed to achieve here with the combination of a light, state-of-the-art chassis, and the new LC8c engine. As a result of this mechanical marriage, the bike has great torque on tap and a 105 horsepower rush which makes for one very happy rider. The LC8c engine is KTM's first inline twin, with the 'c' standing for 'compact'. It was designed with torque in mind, and the liquid cooled 8 valve unit delivers 87Nm at 8000rpm. Furthermore, an ad- vanced ride-by-wire system allows for great refinement, as well as low fuel consumption and emission figures. The exterior components of the chassis itself have been reduced to the bare essentials, leaving behind no unnecessary parts or cover which are not im- perative for function. Therefore, the engine itself doubles as a load bearing element, while the frame is made of extra strong chrome- molybdenum tubular steel, mean- ing that ultimately, less material is needed. Down low, the 790 Duke is equipped with Maxxis Super- maxx ST tyres, which have stag- gering grip in both wet and dry conditions. Nonetheless, they are lightweight, resulting in the bike feeling lighter overall, as well as working towards minimising the unsprung masses and moments of inertia.
