maltatoday SUNDAY 29 APRIL 2018 32 This Week WHAT'S ON EXHIBITIONS UNTIL MAY 2 Terrae Exhibition of works by Victor Agius at Iniala5 Galleries, Old Treasury Street Valletta. Agius examines the formless matter proper to his own experience of the environment – either ran- domly or carefully selected sites with their distinctive ecologi- cal and archeological features – which all finds its roots in the earth or soil-derived organic ma- terials (raw clay, for instance, be- side natural pigments, oils and acrylics). This has allowed him to produce a body of work through which to reflect upon the subject of human existence in general and the limits of his own existence in particular. MAY 3 Subversive Semiotics – a happening for a billboard Artistic happening by photogra- pher David Pisani and organised by Fragmenta Malta at Baħar iċ- Ċagħaq roundabout (Coast Road, next to 'Ċagħaq' bus stop) from 19:00 to 21:00. Centered around a billboard, the accompanying per- formance will begin at 19:30. MAY 10-26 Vernacular Exhibition of paintings by Ka- ren Caruana at Malta Society of Arts, Valletta. Curated by Sabrina Calleja Jackson, the exhibition il- lustrates a nostalgic walk through the current evidence of our coun- try's development. It narrates the ethics projected onto sentimental spaces and memories based on these values and meanings. UNTIL MAY 12 Broken Dreams – The Architecture of War Photography exhibition by Da- vid Pisani at the Malta Postal Mu- seum, Archbishop Street, Valletta. Pisani's work takes us through Cy- prus' tormented and unresolved past. As part of the exhibition, an informal walk-through with the artist is scheduled for April 28 at 11:00. UNTIL JULY 1 Dal-Bahar Madwarha The major visual arts exhibition of Valletta 2018 – commemorat- ing the capital city's adoption of the European Capital of Culture title in 2018. Curated by Maren Richter, the exhibition will be taking place across various ven- ues. These include the Pixkerija, the Examinations Centre and the Underground Cistern, all in Val- letta. A night of metal music celebrat- ing the first-year anniversary for The Garage, Zebbug. Hosted by Mark Dimech and Tyrone Mifsud, with live music from Starz Events. Doors open at 20:00. Entrance is at €3. MAY 18, 19 Malta World Music Festival Second edition of the festival of world music taking place at Fort St Elmo, Valletta from 20:30. Par- ticipating acts include: Cushion, Refugees for Refugees, Afro Celt Sound System, Ana Alcaide, Trad. Attack! and Electrik Gem. The festival is organised under the artistic direction of Renzo Spi- teri. TODAY Cospicua Book Festival for Children One-day festival at the Bormla waterfront which will be dedicated to children and children's literature. A total of five publishers will be exhibiting their books and a cultural programme has been prepared with reading activities, encounters with authors and fun activities. The festival starts at 09:45 in the presence of Cospicua mayor, Alison Zerafa, and the executive chairman of the National Book Council, Mark Camilleri. Among the activities prepared for the day, there will be reading sessions with award-winning authors Clare Azzopardi and John A. Bonello. Other reading and literary activities have been prepared in collaboration with the National Literacy Agency. The festival will run until 19:00. Is-Serra at Mount Carmel Theatre.
