It's post apocalyptic Malta. The enormous weight of the construction boom has caused the island to collapse. The only ones that remain are the filthy dregs of society. Culture, however, is booming with sinister priests, voodoo goddesses, feline slaves and flesh eating virgins luring victims into their beauti- fully twisted cabaret. Bookings: http://www.creativeis- land.com.mt/events/apocalesque/ FILM SCREENING MAY 22 Two Trumpets for St Andrew/Luqa Screening presented by Solar Cinema Malta of the documen- tary Two Trumpets For St An- drew (1968) at Iz-Zuntier tad- Dokkiena, Luqa at 20:30. Two Trumpets For St Andrew is an Australian documentary film that follows the rivalry between two band clubs in the village of Luqa in 1968. John Calleja and Anthony Theuma are the two main pro- tagonists. We are introduced to their way of life and to their passion for their respective band clubs. Both men take us to their place of work - The military air base and the Malta dry Docks. Shot while the British occupation was ending and Malta's inde- pendence was at its inception, this film offers a rare view of how Maltese village life was at the time. The film also features inter- views with Archbishop Gonzi, Gorg Borg Olivier and Dom Mintoff. The screening is free. PUBLIC LECTURES APRIL 30-MAY 3 Sa'd Nimer (Birzeit University) – Three Lectures in Malta Series of public lectures by Sa'd Nimer of Birzeit University, Palestine, hosted by the Depart- ment of Maltese, University of Malta. All lectures are being held at the main campus of the University of Malta in Tal-Qro- qq. The first lecture will be on April 30 and will deal with 'The Palestine Question', and will be held at GW 214 at 18:30, while the second lecture will deal with 'Modern and Contemporary Ar- ab thought' and will be held at GW 311 at 12:00. The third and final lecture in the series will take place at May 3 at 13:00 at OH 112, and will be on 'Islamic Art in the Medi- terranean'. Sa'd Nimer, born in 1959, has been teaching in the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Studies of Birzeit Uni- versit y in Occupied Palestine for the past 15 years.
