| SUNDAY • 13 MAY 2018 maltatoday 19 COMMERCIAL IN 2017, 25% of the world's population was over 50 – a re- cord number. As you age, you may notice that your body goes through changes. Many of these changes are random, although they are likely to be strongly in- fluenced by your environment and lifestyle. The good news is that there are things you can do to ease the effects of ageing on your body, such as eating well and keeping active, both of which will keep you fit and healthy for as long as possible. "To promote and maintain good health, adults need moder- ate intensity exercise for about half-an-hour multiple times a week," explains Italian-regis- tered Nestlé Malta dietician, Mirko Cirolli. "The balance be- tween exercise and nutrition plays a pivotal role in the regula- tion of skeletal and muscle mass. Muscle and bone mass tends to decrease with advancing age and may represent a huge threat to loss of mobility and independ- ence in later life. Oxidative stress and damage to molecules is the main cause of cellular damage, this process is progressive and it ultimately leads to disease." The new Meritene® range of products, which was recently launched locally by Nestle Malta Ltd through their distributor Al- fred Gera & Sons, actually repre- sents a connection between food and healthy ageing nutrition. Eating a variety of whole foods is recommended but it isn't always easy to have a balanced diet, and studies show that older people can have inadequate intakes of various nutrients in their diet. Nestlé Health Science has de- veloped food supplements avail- able in the form of a tasty milk shake, a refreshing orange drink, and even a chocolate treat. Meri- tene® is an innovative brand with a range of products that helps to promote healthy ageing nutri- tion and improve people's nutri- tional intake. The first product is Meritene® Mobilis®, which contains pro- tein, collagen, calcium and vita- min D in addition to hyaluronic acid. By just adding water to it, Meritene® Mobilis® creates a tasty, gluten-free, vanilla milk- shake that helps to support joint, bone and muscle health. If you're looking for something sweeter, Meritene® Vitachoco®, is a vitamin supplement avail- able as a tasty Swiss chocolate treat rather than the traditional capsule or in tablet form. It con- tains a special blend of 12 vita- mins and five minerals: Vitamins A, C, B6, B12 Iron and Zinc, all of which work together to help maintain normal immune sys- tem function. Finally, there's Meritene® Re- genervis®. In addition to the po- tassium and magnesium recom- mended to reduce tiredness and fatigue, this product provides Coenzyme Q10, lutein and res- veratrol that will help to boost overall health and reduce oxi- dative stress. Added to water, it makes a refreshing orange drink that will recharge your vitality. All three products are now avail- able locally. Meritene® products are im- ported by Nestlé Malta Ltd and distributed by Alfred Gera & Sons. These product are exclu- sively sold in pharmacies. President presides over ceremony marking the restoration of the Orange Grove Reservoir HER Excellency Marie-Lou- ise Coleiro Preca, President of Malta, has presided over a ceremony to mark the resto- ration of the Orange Grove Reservoir, in the presence of the Minister for Energy and Water Management, Joe Miz- zi. The reinstatement of a rain- water harvesting reservoir at San Anton Palace is part of the framework of Alter Aqua Pro- gram which is funded by the Coca-Cola Foundation, and implemented by the Global Water Partnership – Medi- terranean, in partnership with the Energy and Water Agency and GSD Marketing Ltd. The San Anton Garden reservoir was built by the Knights of Malta and has a capacity of 1,800,000 litres. Its reinstatement, under the technical supervision of the Energy and Water Agency and GWP-Med, presents his- toric, cultural, social and wa- ter management significance. Harvesting rainwater today through a system built over 400 years ago highlights the intrinsic value of water solu- tions for sustaining life on the island. This water will now be used to irrigate the orange grove of the Palace and its gardens. The President said that the idea to bring the reservoir to life, is part of a wider res- toration project which the Presidency has undertaken at San Anton Palace. Presi- dent Coleiro Preca said that "we are also committed to the United Nations Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Devel- opment Goals", in particular Goal 6 which addresses water sustainability. Her Excellency thanked all the stakeholders involved in this project for be- ing a part of this project – "a project which became a real- ity thanks to our combined efforts". "Alteraqua has had an ef- fective impact over its seven- year lifetime and has resulted in the generation of an annual capacity of around 18 million litres of non-conventional water resources, which can be used in substitution of natu- ral water resources." said the Minister for Energy and Wa- ter Resources, Joe Mizzi A healthy ageing experience
