29 | SUNDAY • 3 JUNE 2018 maltatoday SPORTS ISSF Malta braced to host its first ever shooting world cup All preparations are in place as the country is set to hold the first ever International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Shotgun Malta 2018, which will kick off on Wednes- day and run until 15 June. In a press conference held in the newly-inaugurated shoot- ing range in Ta' Kandja, Par- liamentary Secretary for Sport, Clifton Grima, said that the event would be only possible thanks to the government's ef- fort to finalise the project. "The new shooting range was the dream held by many shoot- ing enthusiasts through the years," Grima said. President of the Malta Shoot- ing Sport Federation (MSSF), Saviour Portelli, said the ISSF hold four events as part of the shooting world cup, declaring that hosting one of these events is not only an honour for the Maltese federation but also for the country. Grima spurred on the 11 ath- letes who will be representing Malta, stating that they will be ambassadors in their own coun- try. ISSF vice-president, Vladimir Lisin, will be attending the competition's opening ceremo- ny on Wednesday, with the offi- cial slogan for the games being, 'Aiming High'. Artistic Director, Ray Calleja said that the slogan represents the country's ambition to suc- ceed despite its small size. The opening ceremony on Wednesday will feature music, fireworks and dancing. TVM will be broadcasting live coverage of all events featuring Maltese athletes as well as all the final events. The Maltese athletes par- ticpating in the ISSF World Cup Shotgun Malta 2018 are: Marcello Attard - Skeet Marlon Attard - Skeet Jason Sciberras - Skeet Darren Vella - Skeet Bozhidar Dimitrov - Skeet Nazzareno Attard - Trap Mario Buhagiar - Trap Gianluca Chetcuti - Trap William Chetcuti - Trap Brian Galea - Trap Mikaela Galea - Trap The country will be accommodating the globe's finest talent in the newly inaugurated shooting range in Ta' Kandja
