maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 6 JUNE 2018 14 TOMORROW, Fort St Angelo will open for a reduced price of €2 while the open- ing hours will be extended till 23.30hrs, offering a unique platform from where visitors can follow the Pageant of the Seas spectacle. During the day the Historical Re-en- actment Group of Malta together with various other international re-enact- ment groups will bring the fort back to life by highlighting garrison life dur- ing the two year French blockade that took place between 1798-1800. Fort St Angelo is one of the venues host- ing one of the series initiatives spread across Malta and Gozo including the participation of around 600 people of whom some 400 hailing from across the EU. With its strategic position at the tip of Vittoriosa, the magnificent Fort St Angelo provides a good sight of the spectacle hosted by the Grand Har- bour from 16.30 till 23.30hrs. Pag- eant of the Seas, organised by Valletta 2018, features numerous regatta boats, power boats, yachts and carnival floats amongst others. This event includes also L-Għawma Toni Bajada and the race with a twist, Tellieqa Telliqun. The Grand Final will consists of a spe- cial pyrotechnic show involving fire- works on a number of floats rigged in the Grand Harbour as well as aerial fireworks from Fort Ricasoli. Fort St Angelo will open its gate at 9.00am and the opening hours will be extended till 23.30hrs, last en- try at 23.00hrs. Children and Herit- age Malta members enter for free. 'ILMISTERU ta' taħt is-Siġra tal- Ħarrub' is a new book in Maltese launched by Heritage Malta. It will satisfy those thirsty for adventure and archaeological knowledge, rolled into one. An audio book ver- sion of the recently published, 'Val- letta – my city, my story' has also been launched. The launching was made this week at St Paul's Catacombs by Heritage Malta Chief Operations Officer, Kenneth Gambin, accom- panied by Godwin Vella, Manager Publications and Education at Heritage Malta. The National Literacy Agency CEO David Muscat and Malta Li- braries Deputy Librarian Marga- ret Zammit and Library Assistant Talking Book Section Malta Li- braries, Leone Sciberras, were also in attendance. Written by David Azzopardi, 'Il-Misteru ta' taħt is-Siġra tal- Ħarrub' follows the adventure of a group of teenagers as they discover a complex of catacombs. In between exploring the dis- covery of the latter, uncovering a hive of antiquity and works of art, smugglers and dispelling a rob- bery, there is enough fast paced adventure in this book to leave any reader glued to its pages. The illustrations, by Dean Fene- ch, evoke the 70s era perfectly and provide visual aid to the text. An audio book version of the recently published 'Valletta – my city, my story', has also been launched. Read by well known actor Alan Parnis, this audio book was pro- duced with the primary aim of making the book accessible to those with visual impairments and, also, to be used as an aid dur- ing the teaching of English lan- guage in schools. Valletta – my city, my story narrates the early years of Valletta, and its inhabit- ants, which are brought back to life as the reader wanders through the beautiful streets, buildings, squares and ruins that dot the city; stories that will make you proud of your heritage. The narration is done by none other than Grand Master Jean Par- isot de Valette. Both titles are endorsed by the National Literacy Agency. CULTURE Reduced price and extended opening hours at Fort St Angelo tomorrow Heritage Malta launches a new historical fiction book and an audio book THE National Book Council is setting up the Summer Book Festival in Gozo for the second year running. This year the festival will be held at Exhi- bition Hall, Ministry for Gozo in Victoria, on 22 and 23 June 2018. A total of nine par- ticipants will be exhibiting their books – MidseaBooks, Faraxa, Merlin, Pjattaforma, Heritage Malta, Horizons, Uptrend, SKS, and Agius and Agius. The festival will be open from 10:00am till 1:00pm and from 4:00 pm till 7:00 pm on both days. The Festival will be opened by Minister for Gozo, Justyne Caruana, and the executive di- rector of the National Book Council, Mark Camilleri. A full and varied cultural pro- gramme has been prepared featuring read- ings by local writers and poets, guided cul- tural visits to sites of interest, and two open mic session organised in collaboration with Inizjamed. A number of activities will be set up by the participants. All members of the public are encouraged to attend and take part in the activities. Summer Book Festival in Gozo
