ICT EXPO 10 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 7 JULY 2019 DURING the past days, MCAST Campus hosted the MCAST ICT EXPO, an edu- cational exhibition which pro- vided students with the oppor- tunity to familiarise themselves better with the courses MCAST is offering in video games devel- opment, Blockchain, computer networking, web development, iGaming and Artificial Intelli- gence. This event also served as a platform for students to show- case their innovative projects, as well as creating the opportu- nity for speaking directly with employers which have com- panies operating in the men- tioned sectors and are looking to employ Maltese students. In view of the fact that Malta has now become a front runner in the digital sphere, the Secre- tariat responsible for the Finan- cial Services, Digital Economy and Innovation, together with MCAST Faculty of ICT and the Faculty of ICA are working closely to promote new careers in the digital economy and en- courage students to secure the opportunities on offer. This is being carried out through collaborative efforts with MITA and Gaming Malta. New economic sectors are developing, hence the industry requires a well-trained and spe- cialised work force in the digital sector, as well as enough talent which sustains the growth of these sectors. This initiative complements the vision recently launched by the Government with regard to video game development, a vision aimed at supporting MCAST in enhancing its train- ing courses as well as to fur- ther invest in laboratories and software which help students develop their own projects. In fact, a consultation is currently ongoing between MCAST, the University of Malta and the in- dustry to understand better the industry's requirements and how this could be anticipated in the best interest of the students and the industry. Courses vary from Multime- dia Software Development, which focuses on the creation of games, mobile apps, fresh looking websites, to Software Development focusing on Artificial Intelligence, Block- chain, Computer Security and Software Development and also Computer Systems and Networks course focusing on Cloud Computing, Data Cen- tre and Information Security which are being offered from level 4 till Level 6. Moreover, iGaming Courses are also be- ing offered, focusing mainly on legislation, compliance, digital marketing and web develop- ment. Parliamentary Secretary for Financial Services, Digital Economy and Innovation, Sil- vio Schembri encouraged stu- dents to pursue a career within these sectors. "For me, the greatest satisfac- tion would be seeing Maltese students become part of this exciting chapter that is now being written. Whilst I thank companies that help MCAST to train and employ students, I encourage students to come forward and embrace the op- portunities that await them," he said. Students can apply between 22 July and 4 August. More details about the pro- spectus are available at www. mcast.edu.mt. This is a unique opportunity for Maltese students to become protagonists and participate in the growth of these new in- dustries, which will be of great benefit not only for the country but also for the careers that will be embarked upon by these stu- dents.
