The friendly game has become an annual entry in the BOV em- ployees' calendar and it is held to raise further awareness on this charity drive amongst col- leagues, families and friends. The BOV team faced some stiff competition, however they bravely soldiered on. Estelle Gatt Barbieri, BOV team captain said: "We truly enjoy coming to play with the marathoners. Being a volley- ball player myself, I understand the difficulties the marathoners have to endure, to keep playing at hours on end. But it is for a worthy cause. I can say that on our part, we are more than will- ing to do what we can to raise more awareness. Our team is composed of diverse staff, most of us being complete beginners, others having played a game or two, years ago when they were still at school. So we don't of- fer much of a combat, but we still try our very best to win. Most of all, we hope to serve as a practice stint for the real he- roes of the day - the volleyball players who endure a demand- ing training regime and will be persevering in this heat." Stefan Decelis, Technical Di- rector of the Marathon, has been coaching players for the past three years and selecting the final teams playing dur- ing the marathon weekend. He said that time is the biggest challenge for each and every player. Once selected, players also participate in a number of team-building activities so that they can get to know each other better. "It is a very taxing event, but all the hard work and dedica- tion of our players and the sacrifices of the volunteers at Id-Dar tal-Providenza can only be rewarded through donations by the general public, all to help the residents enjoy a better life". The BOV Marigold Volley- ball Marathon will be officially inaugurated on Friday 5th July by H.E George Vella, President of Malta. Contributions can be made by calling 51702012 for a €15 do- nation and 51802013 for a €25 donation. A donation of €6.99 can be made by sending a blank SMS to 50618944. BOV Mobile Pay subscribers may make their donation on 79324834. BOV employees and volleyball marathoners in friendly confrontation IT was all wom- en power at the Corinthia Pal- ace Hotel last Thursday 20th June, with over 50 women who attended this very informative seminar, aimed at women in business and re- al estate. The seminar took the form of four panel discussions, all centred around the wom- an's role in today's working world, the rewards and chal- lenges faced by today's working mums, as well as the opportu- nities available within the real estate sector, particularly with- in Frank Salt Real Estate. The panel titled 'Re-imag- ining the workplace for the modern parent', was moder- ated by Vanessa Macdonald and panellists were some of Malta's top-rated successful business women and mums, namely Joanna Spiteri Staines, Claudine Cassar, Maria Bartolo Zahra, Mikela Fenech Pace and Angelica Micallef Trigona. On the topic of women re- turning to work after having kids, this is what some of the panellists had to say: Mikela Fenech Pace "We don't realise what a lot of sup- port there is out there". This was in reply to Vanessa Mac- donald's statement "40 years ago when I started working, there were no childcare facili- ties. The next generation will have fewer obstacles and will be able to seek a career". Amongst others, topics dis- cussed included 'Preparing yourself mentally before em- barking on a new career or before returning to work as a working mother and overcom- ing the difficulties of balancing family and work life. 'Building your Brand, Build your Business' was moderated by Ariadne Massa and pan- ellists included personalities and business women Jo Caru- ana, Moira Delia and Charlene Mercieca. Frank Salt Real Estate - The ideal workplace for women starting their career THE Solar Farm Policy pub- lished in October 2017 sets out the fundamental criteria which the Planning Author- ity (PA) deems appropriate to guide the planning and design of solar farm development and the proper evaluation of ap- plications for such schemes in the Maltese islands. The drastic reduction in PV panel prices, as a significant element in the renewable en- ergy sources mix, has provided an alternative, cost-effective path for Malta to progress to- wards reaching its 10% of the 2020 Energy from Renewable Sources (RES) target. In this case, the 2017 policy gives priority for the develop- ment of solar farms in quar- ries, among other sites, to mitigate their negative visual impact while providing an op- portunity to generate green electricity. This policy applies to all quarries whether they are currently operational, in- active or disused. Quarries that have been restored before the date of adoption of this policy are not eligible for the development of solar farms. Solar farms are defined by the 2017 policy as any commercial installation with a footprint larger than 1,000sq.m being one consolidated and con- tiguous area included in one development application, not usually related to residential development, for the purpose of renewable energy genera- tion by means of photovoltaic technology. Quarries are considered to be prominent eyesores, es- pecially within the low-lying localities of Mqabba, Qrendi and Siggiewi. The policy encourages the restoration of suitable quarries not only to mitigate their neg- ative visual impact but, per- haps even more importantly, to provide an opportunity to generate green electricity.
