Since then, as Maltese music evolved, the simple yet magical concept of the annual event stayed the same; five acts of diverse musical genres within one concert in a stunning thea- tre. This year marks the 22nd edition of Teatru Unplugged, which will be held in the iconic Teatru Manoel in Valletta on three different nights between Friday 29 November and Sun- day 1 December 2019. For more infor- moation visit https://www.face- book.com/teatru.unplugged/ 28 NOVEMBER Concert by the band of the Armed Forces of Malta The annual concert by the band of the Armed Forces of Malta in aid of Id-Dar tal-Provi- denza will this year take place at the Metropolitan Cathedral of St Paul in Mdina on Friday 6th December at 8pm. The concert will be under the distinguished patronage of the President of Malta, George Vella who will also present the Mons. Mikiel Azzopardi Award 2019 to the winner who will be announced during the evening. The band is under the direc- tion of Twanny Borg with the participation of soprano Celine Abela and tenor George Zam- mit. The programme includes works by Handel, von Weber, Rodrigo, Albinoni, De Haan, Reineke and Rutter as well as works by Maltese composers Carmel Callus and Ray Sciber- ras with arrangements by Capt. Festivals TODAY ZiguZajg Festival The 9th edition of ŻiguŻajg Festival returns with a fan- tastic line-up of no less than twenty-one projects and nine creative forms! The selection has a nice balance of new Mal- tese works together with some of the best touring shows, in- cluding five commissions by foremost local artists, five co-productions with national public cultural organisations, and no less than eleven inter- national projects from around the globe. The 2019 Festival pro- gramme initiatives vary from a brand new promenade mu- sic theatre show which will also tour schools, to a dar- ing contemporary circus act, award-winning films, an op- era with loads of humour, a re-adaptation of an iconic literature classic, and a num- ber of outdoor happenings. This year's edition, featuring a strong environmental mes- sage for young and old, prom- ises to enchant children as well as those young at heart. UNTIL 6 DECEMBER The Malta International Organ Festival The 6th edition of the Malta International Organ Festival will introduce a formidable group of internationally ac- claimed musicians to the local scene through multiple con- certs at various churches across both islands. This prestigious festival will launch on Friday 22nd Novem- ber with a Pomp & Splendour concert held at St Paul's Angli- can Pro-Cathedral and will end on Friday 6th December with Missa Mundi at St John's Co- Cathedral, spanning a fortnight of musical and cultural excel- lence. The Malta International Organ Festival will also debut a first for the island with a sched- uled performance involving the alphorn – an instrument com- monly used by Alpine moun- tain dwellers as a traditional communicative method. In conjunction with the organ, the concert will not only introduce locals to the instrument but will delight audiences through a mystical and unique instru- mental combination. For more information please visit http:// www.maltainternationalorgan- festival.com Theatre 26 DECEMBER Comedy Knights 007: Licence to Laugh Every year, the Teatru Sales- jan in Sliema hosts what has become for many, a must-see Christmas tradition: The Com- edy Knights' annual Christmas show. It is a satirical sketch show that somehow manages to walk the line between silly and biting, while, at the same time, constantly being the funniest show on the island. This year's show is Comedy Knights 007: Licence to Laugh. The title of the show reflects the number of years the Comedy Knights have been producing this an- nual sketch show. It promises to be always original, always topi- cal, always on point and per- haps most importantly, always hilarious. The cast features some of Malta's strongest comedy per- formers, as well as characters that have managed to enter lo- cal popular culture. Audience favourites such as the Bormla Babes, The First Lady and the Sliema Girls, are certain to make an appearance, while a vast selection of other sketches inspired by Maltese society and way of life will complete the show. Other 28 NOVEMBER Public lecture by Professor Keith Sciberras A public lecture by Professor Keith Sciberras on Melchiorre Cafà's statuette, 'St Rose of Lima', is set to mark the first year of MUŻA - the National Community Art Museum, in Valletta, as well as the recent acquisition of the statuette by Heritage Malta. The lecture, which will be held on Thurs- day, the 28th of November, at 6.30pm at MUŻA, will discuss the statue within the context of Cafà's work, and the wider framework of the Roman Ba- roque style.
