Events 45 maltatoday, Sunday, 14 december 2014 The Banif Treasure Hunt rolls through the Three Cities Fossil holidays Fundacion MAPFRE and Middlesea Insurance organise healthy living workshops for parents Second intake for International Trade Finance Course Banif Bank joined forces with Roll- ing Geeks for a spectacular Treas- ure Hunt on wheels. Each team rode an electric car and went on a wacky ride around the Three Cities, solv- ing several cryptic puzzles while venturing from one site to another. Many heads were scratched and laughs were shared all round! There was no shortage of eye- candy, with the treasure hunters enjoying the breath-taking view from the Gardjola, shrapnel marks on St Helen's Gate in Cospicua, and the tight underground staircase leading to the cave-like Nativity Chapel in Senglea, all while nego- tiating the ups, downs and mean- dering narrow streets of the rustic localities. Ten teams gave it their all in a mad dash to the finish, with the aptly named Navigators team emerging triumphant! "We're very pleased to see this turned out so well," said Kenneth Sacco, who forms part of the Bank's Sports and Social Com- mittee. "All the teams were very ex- tremely enthusiastic and competi- tive, and seeing everyone work so closely together to solve the puz- zles is exactly what we wanted to accomplish from this event". The Banif Sports and Social Commit- tee organises regular events with the intention of bringing employ- ees together outside of the office environment, to socialise and en- joy what Malta has to offer, while strengthening bonds for effective team work. The holidays are on the horizon, and Fossil is con- tinuing its journey on the open road. Whether home for the season or off on a winter getaway, Fossil has curated a stellar selection of gifts sure to make the season bright. Classic styles in an essential neutral palette, vi- brant stocking stuffers or gifts that are truly out of this world—they're all packable presents sure to as- sure your destination will be a celebration! Fossil is available from all VIP and Sunlab outlets in Sliema and Valletta As part of the ongoing healthy liv- ing campaign "Caqlaq", Fundacion MAPFRE along with Middlesea In- surance is organising Healthy Living Workshops for parents. These workshops are provided for free with the aim of helping parents bring up their children in a healthy environment. During the seminars, parents receive valuable tips on a number of topics such as how to lead an active lifestyle and good eating habits. During the seminar, parents also enjoyed sharing their experi- ences with other parents. The Institute of Prevention, Health and Environment within Fundacion MAPFRE embarked on a nation- wide campaign last year sponsoring "Caqlaq" a Healthy Living Campaign in a number of local Primary Schools for children aged from 7 to 9 years. This cam- paign is endorsed by the Ministry of Edu- cation and Employ- ment and the Minis- try of Health. "When we started the Caqlaq cam- paign in local pri- mary schools last year, we received excellent feedback from school ad- ministrations, students, parents as well as government bodies. This year we are building on last year's momentum, continuing with edu- cational, fun sessions with children at schools and adding some new elements such as the parent workshops which strengthen the reach of this campaign," said Mr Alfredo Mu- noz, President and CEO of Middlesea Insurance. A parent who at- tended a session said, "I enjoyed the session very much. It is an interesting guide for modern day healthy living and made me more aware of the need to incorporate more exer- cise in my daily routine, eat healthier food and quit smoking. "It's also good to share experiences with other parents who face similar dilemmas every day. In fact, I wished that the session was a little bit longer! I encourage other parents to attend such sessions for their own benefit as well as that of their children." As part of the campaign a total of 4,000 books are being distributed to students and schools to reinforce the message. Middlesea Insurance p.l.c. (C-5553) is authorised by the Malta Financial Services Authority to carry on both Long Term and General Business under the Insurance Business Act, 1998. The University of Malta, together with the International Factors Group (IFG) and FIMBank p.l.c., has announced preparations for a new intake of students for the Cer- tificate of Finance in International Trade. This unique international pro- gramme is the first university-cer- tified specialist programme focus- ing on trade finance, and aims to introduce participants to the world of international trade, logistics, trade supply chain management, asset based lending and trade fi- nance. It also incorporates the IFG Academy Week, which is the only truly international compre- hensive and integrated course on the theory and practice of factor- ing and commercial finance. The four-week curriculum, which will be held at FIMBank's head office in St. Julian's, is designed to provide international participants with a wide range of competencies that will enable them to further their career in the corporate world. University of Malta Rector Prof. Juanito Camilleri stated that: "We are proud to be associated with the IFG and FIMBank in the formula- tion of this unique initiative. We are confident that this certificate programme, now in its second year, will continue to provide a sound framework for those wishing to pursue further study or seek a ca- reer in the field of trade finance. "With 144 contact hours with professors, bankers and practition- ers, this programme will offer cur- rent and prospective trade finance professionals from all over the world with an exceptional educa- tional experience - both theoretical and practical." Erik Timmermans Secretary General of the IFG, confirmed the Association's enthusiasm for the programme and reiterated the significance of the decision to em- bed the IFG's existing Academy programme within this certificate course. "As expected, this devel- opment has added tremendous value to the course, since success- ful participants have the option to either enroll in our Academy Week or else follow the full four-week programme and achieve an EU ac- credited qualification in both in- stances." FIMBank President Margrith Lutschg-Emmenegger explained that FIMBank's involvement in this project stems from the Bank's desire to "provide a much-needed platform from which profession- als can increase their understand- ing of all aspects of international trade, the import and export busi- ness, logistics and trade finance, with an emphasis on the practical aspect of real-life international trade scenarios". She stated that the relevance of such a course is highlighted by the fact that "career opportunities in in- ternational trade continue to grow even during periods of economic downturn and fluctuations in the business cycle, and therefore the de- mand for capable and experienced professionals in the field of trade finance remains high". Applications for the second in- take of the Certificate of Finance in International Trade pro- gramme are currently being ac- cepted.
