The magpies batted first to put an unsatisfactory score of 117 runs after the twent y overs were up. Tony Azzopardi was a stand- out performer, scoring thirt y nine runs from the allotted thirt y balls which included three boundaries and a six. Aquilina's inclusion was a positive one with him scoring a valuable twent y four runs from twent y two balls which included a six. John Rusher steered the in- nings and held up an end towards the late stages of the innings and scored eighteen runs along the way which included three bound- aries. Andrew Naudi made thirteen runs and four other batsmen made four runs between them. There were nineteen extras otherwise the scorecard would have been a sorry state for the magpies. Not taking anything away from the bowling of the bees which was re- markable in keeping the magpies at bay. Paul Bradley was the main wick- et taker with two while Daniel Galea, Tim Wheeler, Joy Ghose- roy and Derek Ali all took a wick- et each. The bees made the required runs on the first ball of the sixteenth over. Ewan Prezens who was rep- resenting the Swedish national team faced that one ball and had it sailing over the boundary for six. He would not have wanted a better sending off. The bowl- ers were under siege throughout the rest of the game offering no reply. This was the final game of the first round, and with the win Melita Bees are on top, Krishna Cobras second and Marsa Mag- pies in third. Next Saturday the final session of the Sunoco Cricket Academy for this year will be from 9.00 till 10.30am.
