Open Day at Sant' Antnin waste treatment plant Over 500 visitors consisting of families from various localities ac- tively participated in a day of activi- ties held at the Sant' Antnin waste treatment plant in Marsascala as part of the Public Service Week, entitled Quality Service. For this event, WasteServ encouraged mem- bers of the public to visit the plant and experience first-hand the envi- ronment friendly processes being adopted to treat and separate the recyclable material being stored in this facility. During the 'A Day for the Pub- lic', visitors had the opportunity to attend various presentations by WasteServ officials on the proc- esses adopted by WasteServ from the time the recyclable waste is col- lected from home, until it is treated at the Sant' Antnin waste treatment plant. The public also had the opportu- nity to ask questions and clarify un- certainties about managing recycla- ble waste at a domestic level. Apart from the ongoing educational ses- sions at the auditorium, the events also consisted of train rides within the facility, and fun activities for the children. Commenting about the open day WasteServ Chairman, David Borg and Chief Executive Officer, Tonio Montebello said, "we are extremely overwhelmed with the public turn- out for this event. Such a huge gath- ering is a confirmation of public's support towards our commitment to continue to enhance our efforts to educate the public and increase the capacity of recyclable material." Borg and Mr Montebello also an- nounced that a total of 65kg of used batteries and expired medicines were collected from visitors, who brought the waste with them to dis- pose of at the plant, throughout the open day. Being part of the Public Service Week's schedule of activities, the event was also attended by the Prin- cipal Permanent Secretary, Mario Cutajar and Permanent Secretary for the Ministry for Sustainable De- velopment, the Environment and Climate Change, Joseph Caruana who toured the premises of the Sant' Antnin Plant. Inspired by the research un- dertaken as part of the Bluebrain Project, at the polytechnic Univer- sity in Lausanne, and with over 30 years' experience in English lan- guage training from its founders, who have learnt and worked with various methodologies within the industry, including Natural Learn- ing, Laubach Method, Alpha Meth- od, Birkenbihl Method and Blended Learning. The company has selected the best components of each and developed its own Bluebrain concept. This en- sures faster and more sustainable learning and use of the main vocab- ulary and phrases. With the combination of a holiday feeling, classroom training and the Video Limbic Learning System - maximum fun and success are guar- anteed. In the Video Limbic Learn- ing System there are numerous films; from blockbusters to Industry specifics which can be accessed via smart phone, iPad and the Internet. In the modern training rooms, students from the same industry will be trained by the Company's professional trainers using the lat- est teaching methods. Speaking about the reasons why Bluebrain Education Ltd chose to open in Malta, the Company's Man- aging Director, Stephen Adeoye said, "Malta has fast become one of Europe's premier EFL destinations, as the Island's ties with the English language, coupled with its fantas- tic natural resources have made it an attractive location for Business, Agents and private students alike. "Furthermore, SmartCity Malta's vision is to create a global network of self-sustained business townships to foster the 'knowledge economy'. This is in sync with our philosophy to be as close as possible to our cus- tomers." Commenting on the increased de- mand of the Business Community to learn the English language, he added "the growth of our industry is the result of the increased popular- ity of the English language. Today, English is so widely spoken that it is often referred to as a 'world language', the lingua franca of the modern era. Whilst English is not an official language in most coun- tries, it is currently the language often taught as a foreign language around the world. Some linguists believe that it is no longer the ex- clusive cultural property of "native English speakers", but is rather a language that is absorbing aspects of cultures worldwide as it contin- ues to grow."
