maltatoday, SUNDAY, 7 JUNE 2015 32 This Week EXHIBITIONS UNTIL JUNE 15 Frammenti/Fragments Collective exhibition at St James Cavalier, Valletta by Brendan Buttigieg, Julia Grech and Matthew Schembri, three art undergraduate students in their final year at the Faculty of Education at the University of Malta. The chosen theme – Frammenti / Fragments – ref lects the differences between the artists themselves and their artistic work. If we observe ourselves and our surroundings, we soon realise that everything could be interpreted as made of many fragments which are combined together. JUNE 12-21 New Weapons Collective exhibition at Blitz, St Lucy Street, Valletta. Featuring work by Aava Anttinen, Rachel Channa Kremer, Zhanna Bobrakova, Sarah Crew, Bonamy Devas, Valerie Driscoll, Helena Goñi, Benjamin Knight, Albena Martinova, Laura Marques, Hana Vojackova, Dario Srbic, Parvaneh Rahimi, Dana Strango, Hengxi Li, Trilokjit Sengupta and Mengjiao Yu. The exhibition is a collaboration between BLITZ and Central Saint Martins University of the Arts London. UNTIL AUGUST 15 Obsidio Melitae Exhibition at the National Library, Valletta of historical documents pertaining to the Great Siege of Malta. The main focus of the display will be the original prints by Matteo Perez d'Aleccio depicting the highlights of the siege. Other interesting documents include original letters of congratulation from European sovereigns sent to Grand Master Jean de Valette after the lifting of the siege. On view are also published contemporary accounts of the siege, including the 1567 and 1568 editions of Francesco Balbi da Correggio's day-to-day diary. Modern scholarly studies of the 1565 event will also feature in the display. Opening hours are Monday to Friday between 08:15 and 17:00 and on Saturdays between 08:15 and 13:00; and between June 16 and August 16 from Monday to Saturday between 08:00 and 13:00. JUNE 23-25 Kelma Kelma Nota Nota: Kuncert tal-Qaddisin A series of three concerts that combine traditional and contemporary music and Maltese literature at Pjazza Teatru Rjal, Valletta at 21:00. FILM FESTIVAL JUNE 15-21 Valletta Film Festival WHAT'S ON WHAT'S ON TODAY Sette Giugno Commemoration of the tragic events of 7-6-1919 known as the 'Sette Giugno'. This is in remembrance of the riots of 1919 when the Maltese people revolted against the British administration and demanded some form of representative government for the island. Four people died on that fateful day. A commemorative ceremony will be held at St George's Square Valletta organised by the National Festivities Committee. A similar commemoration will take place in Xagħra, Gozo. Religious Feasts The feasts of Our Lady of Fatima (Gwardamangia), the Feast of St Anthony (Ghajnsielem, Gozo), Feast of St Joseph (Hal Ghaxaq) and the Feast of the Annunciation (Tarxien) will be taking place today. In Guardia Parade Historical re-enactment at Fort St Elmo, Valletta from 11:00. During the re-enactment, of the fort's garrison – some 55 re-enactors in all – are kitted-out in their uniforms to perform their military drill to demonstrate to the Grand Bailiff its state of readiness.
