Local talent Hannah Pace and Graham Borg will be on the start- ing line of the Garmin Barcelona Triathlon to be held in La Mar Bella, Barcelona on the 21 June. The stunning La Mar Bella beach will provide the back drop for the race, from where triathletes will start their swim followed by the cycle leg on closed roads into the city via the Agbar Tower and run- ning through the streets taking in the world famous Parc de la Ciuta- della and Arc de Triomf. Racing in draft legal conditions, this race will prove a challenging one for Garmin sponsored, Pem- broke Athleta, triathlete Hannah Pace, who will be representing Malta in the first edition of the European Games in Baku, Az- erbaijan. Young Pace has regis- tered some impressive results on an international level this year, winning a number of cycling and triathlon races abroad, which have helped her in the build up for her European Games participation. Birkirkara St. Joseph's Graham Borg has so far registered strong performances throughout the season placing fourth overall and winning his age group in the standard distance triathlon in Custonaci, Sicily and more recent- ly winning the sprint triathlon in Marzamemi also in Sicily. Borg had also a good showing in the recently held Garmin Malta 113k Triathlon where he placed fourth Maltese and sixth overall in a pool of fifty two strong athletes. Borg is currently preparing for another race in Mondello, Sicily this time he will be undertaking a sprint distance. Pace and Borg's international commitments will not stop with the Garmin Barcelona Triathlon, but will continue in July, when they will be joining the rest of the Malta National Triathlon team for the 2015 ETU Triathlon European Championships to be held in Gen- eve, Switzerland. Pace and Borg's participation in the Garmin Barcelona Triathlon is being made possible through the assistance of Garmin Malta, represented locally by Medcomms Malta Ltd. and Garmin Spain. "As the leading GPS brand we seek to partner with strong and committed talent and are very proud to be supporting Hannah and Graham in this race," said Mark Gaglione, Medcomms Malta representative. "Both athletes have shown dedication and consist- ency throughout their preparation for the races they have been tak- ing part in this season and we are sure that they will do the Garmin brand proud in Barcelona". Hannah Pace Broken bat seriously injures spectator OAKLAND'S Brett Lawrie's bat broke on his groundout to second at the top of the second inning, sending a shard f lying into the stands where it hit the female spectator. Medical personnel raced to tend to the woman and the game was stopped as she was taken away on a stretcher as both sets of fans applauded. The Boston Globe reported that she was taken to a nearby hospi- tal and there was no word on her condition on Friday night. After the match, Red Sox man- ager John Farrell told the news- paper: "Our thoughts and con- cern and certainly our prayers go out to the woman who was struck with the bat - her and her family. "All you can think about is a family coming to a ball-game to hopefully get three hours of en- joyment and unfortunately with how close our stands are to the field of action... an accident like this tonight, it's certainly dis- turbing."
