maltatoday, SUNDAY, 7 JUNE 2015 55 Sport MOTORSPORTS ASMK 2014-2015 season comes to an end ON Saturday 30 May 2015 As- socjazzjoni Sport Muturi u Karo- zzi organized the last event of the season of the ASMK Pasta Poi- atti 2014/15 Championships. Car and Motorcycle racing was held at the ASMK Sports complex at 'Ta' Qali. The Autocross, Moto- cross and Trials participated in this great event with 48 competi- tor on the starters lists. A look at the day's event which started early in the afternoon by the Trials riders who competed in their 7th and last competi- tion of the championship. Class A Damon Bonello on a Gas Gas motorcycle dominated the day and finished the competition with the least number of penalty points, that of 26 point. Damon was followed by Robert Caruana who finished in second place on a Gas Gas with 41 penalty points while Rowen Bonello placed third on a Beta with 45 point of penalty. In Class B we saw that Joseph Scicluna dominated his class and won on the day by 38 point pen- alty only. Second place was won by Manuel Camilleri who closed the day with 62 points while third placed Ian Scicluna finished the day with 76 points of penalty. All riders in this class ride on Gas Gas motorcycles. A look at what happened in Mo- tocross section reveals the battle for the lead in Class A between Clayton Camilleri on a KTM and Trever Muscat on a Honda. During the two heats of the day Camilleri won the first Heat and Muscat finished runner up but in the second Heat Muscat won and Camilleri was Runner-up. So both riders finished the day with the same 52 points each. Muscat won the Podium of the day followed by Camilleri. Paul Muscat finished third on the day on his KTM with 45 points while fourth place was won by Edward Ciantar on a Kawasaki with 39 points. The Motocross Class B saw Ludvick Muscat on a KTM dom- inating his Class and winning the two heats of the day. Muscat finished in first place with 50 points followed by Adam Sultana from Gozo riding a Kawasaki and finished in second place with 49 points. Robert Spiteri ranked in third place on a Yamaha while fourth place was won by Charles Borg on a Honda. At 8.00pm the organizers dropped the Start Flag for the Autocross Section. Autocross drivers participated in several categories including the Auto- cross Modified class, the Stand- ard Class and the 'Over 51' Auto- cross class. The main attention was drawn on the Modified class as the battle for the National Autocross championship win- ner to bear the No. 1 on his car in the coming season was still undecided. During these races we saw the return of former Champjon Patrick Cassar on an Opel Corsa who dominated the 3 heats of the day. Unfortunately Cassar could not take part in the Class A finals because the regulations do not allow a driver to compete in the final Class A if he had not competed in at least four races during the season. Cassar won the Class B with flying colours and demonstrated spectacu- lar car control. Subsequently, among the Class A qualifiers were Philip Joe Vella on his Opel Corsa and Chrisitan Galea on his Fiat Ritmo, Joseph Micallef on his Opel Corsa, Christian Apap on his Ford Fiesta, Jean Paul Grech on his Peugeot 106 and Matthew Borg on a Vaux- hall Nova. Right from the start Galea was seen to make a good lead while Vella and Micallef folowed closed to each other. The focus of all present was directed on these first three positioned lead- ing cars yet Apap was followed close by both Borg and Grech. During this 9 laps final we saw Borg adding pressure on Apap and was only just before the end of the race that Borg managed to overtake on Apap. The race final ended with Galea taking the chequered flag first followed by Vella. Micallef won 3rd place in this race while Borg finished in fourth ahead of Apap and Grech. The Class B finalist were Patrick Cassar on an Opel Cor- sa, Matthew Galea and Pace Guzi both on a Ford Escort, Jonathan Camilleri on his Opel Corsa, Ivan Birmingham on his Suzuki Swift and Mario Tabone on his Opel Corsa. Right from the start we saw Cassar steal- ing the lead in first position who was followed by Galea and Pace. Tabone was making pressure on Pace until the referee warned Tabone for an unsporty action on Pace. The race continued where Birmigham continued to advance and closing the gap on Galea who later withdrew from the race. Thus the final ended with Cassar winning with a substantial advantage. He was followed by Birmingham and Tabone. Pace placed in fourth place followed by Camilleri in fifth. Other Results were the Auto- cross Standard Class was run between 5 cars. Deane Farrugia finished winning on his Citroen AX followed by Saviour Micallef on a Volkswagen Polo. Third place was won by Traydon Bailey on a Ford Ka. The Autocross 'Over 51' Class was dominated by the ASMK Recovery Vehicle driver Joe Falzon on a Vauxhall Nova.
