maltatoday, SUNDAY, 4 OCTOBER 2015 This Week 41 Former Din l-Art Helwa president elected to international heritage NGO board FORMER Din l-Art Helwa presi- dent Simone Mizzi has been elect- ed to the executive board of the International National Trusts Or- ganisation Board, a global network of heritage preservation NGOs. "I am honoured to have been invited to join the leadership of INTO," Mizzi said, following her election to the board during an in- ternational conference of national trusts held in Cambridge, England. "INTO connects a global network of national trusts with a powerful brand that inspires and attracts members and supporters the world over. INTO represents well over 7 million people spread across our planet. "Din l-Art Helwa was a found- ing member of INTO in 2007. It will be a privilege to play a role in shaping its future and represent- ing Din l-Art Helwa and through it, Malta." Mizzi will be serving with Dame Fiona Reynolds, former director- general of the National Trust for England, Wales and Northern Ire- land, who was elected to the posi- tion of chair as successor to found- ing President Professor Simon Molesworth. INTO was founded in 2007 with the objective to promote the con- servation and enhancement of the natural and cultural heritage of all nations for the benefit of the people of the world. Its main focus is to as- sist developing nations set up local associations for the preservation of heritage and the environment, to raise awareness of the threat to the global community from climate change. INTO is also committed to the promulgation of responsible tourism around the world. Maltese literature showcased in London LONDON will play host to a show- case of Maltese literature on Octo- ber 13, during an event organised by the National Book Council in collaboration with Francis Boutle Publishers. 'This Fair Land', taking place at Kabaret at Karamel, 4 Coburg Road, London at 20:00, will consist on readings from the eponymous edited by Charles Briffa with a foreword by Oliver Friggieri. During the event, Briffa will be delivering a short presentation fol- lowing readings. 'This Fair Land: An Anthology of Maltese Literature' is a com- prehensive collection of around 200 texts in Maltese accompanied by new translations into English. From the orally transmitted say- ings of past centuries and the few surviving remnants of early written Maltese (the first poem in Maltese was composed in mid-fifteenth century) to the experiments and struggles for survival of the eight- eenth and nineteenth centuries and the achievements of writing in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
