46 maltatoday, SUNDAY, 4 OCTOBER 2015 Events Public thrilled at seeing Coca-Cola bottles transform into cool objects THE public visiting Science in the City in Valletta last weekend was amazed at how recycled Coca- Cola plastic bottles can actually become desirable items – from mobile phone covers, to toy boats, bracelets, keychains, vases and other items at the touch of a but- ton of the EKOCYCLE Cube 3D printer. The EKOCYCLE printer was in- troduced for the first time in Mal- ta by GSD Marketing Ltd, local representatives of The Coca-Cola Company, during the Science in the City annual event. Last year, GSD participated in the festival with a live exhibition of the sci- ence behind the manufacturing of a soft drink bottle. This year, GSD brought to the Maltese public the highly in- novative EKOCYCLE Cube 3D printer which has been creating hype across the world for its ca- pacity to transform recycled PET, from Coca-Cola plastic bottles, into different objects. The port- able printer is practical and user- friendly enough to have and use at home. EKOCYCLE was the invention of Black Eyed Peas star Will.i.am, together with The Coca-Cola Company, to motivate brands to make things partly from recycled materials and make sustainable living cool. "It was such a satisfaction as local representatives of The Coca-Cola Company to see so many people attracted to our stand to see with their own eyes the EKOCYCLE printer in action, transforming recycled Coca-Cola bottles into objects they like and hold them in their own hands" said Stephen Bonnici, Public Affairs & Com- munications Manager of GSD Marketing Ltd. "Children, adults and scientists alike asked all sort of questions on how this innovative machine is changing people's perception about recycling converting waste into new objects." The brain behind EKOCYCLE, global musical artist and pro- ducer Will.i.am, has been quoted as saying, "Waste is only waste if we waste it. With the EKOCYCLE brand, I'm on a mission to educate and inspire consumers around the globe to seek out more sustainable lifestyle choices that will ultimate- ly play a part in the movement to- ward a world with zero waste. "The Coca-Cola Company shares this vision and together, working with local communities worldwide, we will showcase the greater value of recycling, as well as selecting products that feature recycled materials." Liquigas launches campaign to collect illegally painted cylinders Liquigas Malta has embarked on a campaign to collect illegally re- painted cylinders from the market in both Malta and Gozo. A number of Liquigas green and yellow LPG gas cylinders have been illegally repainted dark grey and filled by third parties. These repainted cylinders easily show the original Liquigas green and yellow paint under the grey coating. Liquigas is not in a position to as- sume responsibility for such cylin- ders as required by European and Maltese legislation. Liquigas is offering its customers a free-of-charge replacement for il- legally painted cylinders, whether used or still sealed, with a full Liq- uigas green or yellow cylinder. The replacement cylinders will be deliv- ered to the customer free of charge. This campaign on print and social media explains how customers can distinguish these cylinders. Liquigas' offer is valid until Sat- urday 7 November 2015. Those who are in possession of an illegally painted grey cylinder should con- tact Liquigas Malta on telephone 2248 6010 during office hours or via email at info@liquigasmalta.com Marsovin's Grand Maître 2013, "Annata Fra Annette de Cler- mont de Chattes Gessan", is to be released on Friday 16 October 2015. This is the 16th vintage of the prized Grand Maître, produced from grapes grown in Marsovin's Private Estate - Ghajn Rihana. The Ghajn Rihana estate spans over an area of 1.6 hectares, situ- ated between the Bidnija hills and Wardija in the north of Malta. The vineyard is densely planted with 14,000 vines of two noble French grape varieties, made up of equal quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The arid land and clay-rich, calcareous soil provide a tough growing environment for these vines. The yields from this estate generally produce very concentrat- ed full bodied wines of intense fruit and aromatic character. Following vinification, the unfiltered wine is aged in new oak barriques for over 12 months in the Marsovin Cellars prior to bottling. This year's vintage is dedicated to Grand Master Fra Annette de Cler- mont de Chattes Gessan, the 59th Prince and Grand Master of the Order of Malta. He was elected in 1660 after the death of Fra Martin de Redin. He only reigned as Grand Master of the Order for 3 months and was buried in the Chapel of Au- vergne in St. John's Co-Cathedral. Marsovin's Grand Maître is a wine dedicated to the Grand Masters of Malta by special appointment to the Maltese Association Sovereign Mil- itary Order of Malta. Each vintage is dedicated to a different Grand Mas- ter in chronological order, the first one being Philippe Villiers de L'Isle Adam for the 1998 vintage. A premium blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc is what makes Grand Maître. The wine is produced from handpicked grapes harvested from a privately owned estate Ghajn Rihana situated at the foothills between Bidnija and Wardija. The 2013 vintage climatic conditions were characterised by a relatively warmer and drier winter, followed by a much cooler summer than that of the previous year. Overall these conditions result- ed in a slow grape maturity and a substantially higher harvest yield in comparison to the exception- ally very low yields obtained in the previous two years, producing an al- ready very approachable and pleas- ant wine characterised by its typical fruity bouquet and velvety smooth tannins, brought about by over 12 months ageing in new French Bar- riques. This outstanding wine has a very pleasant, long, lingering fin- ish and will mature well for at least eight to ten years in the right storage conditions. Grand Maître is available in wood- en boxes of six and three bottles, as well as single bottles being offered in an exclusively designed complimen- tary presentation box. For information and orders of Grand Maître, you can call the Mar- sovin Cellars on 23662445 or send an email to cellars@marsovinwin- ery.com Marsovin releases Grand Maître 2013 Tony Drago appearance supported by Banif Bank Maltese pool heavyweight Tony Drago (pictured)'s appearance at the event Show for Istrina was sup- ported by Banif Bank. The event was a day of ac- tivities bringing together athletes, exhibitions and entertainment to raise funds for the Malta Com- munity Chest Fund (MCCF). The event was organised by the Fgura Peagant Group and was inaugarated by President Marie- Louise Coleiro Preca.
