Events 55 maltatoday, SUNDAY, 1 NOVEMBER 2015 Concept 2 to hold global Ski Erg competition CONCEPT 2, synonymous around the globe with creating a very competitive indoor rowing ma- chine, have also created an equally competitive Ski Erg used around the globe and is a favourite with Cross Fit exercisers everywhere. Between 6 and 8 November, Concept 2 are holding the annual world ski sprints on the Ski Erg. This is a 1km sprint that is held in clubs, gyms, studios and schools everywhere with race results au- thenticated and posted online. Last year over 1,200 fitness en- thusiasts competed in the event aged between 5 and 85 in dif- ferent age categories. The fast- est male time posted was by an American and the fastest female by a Swede. This year, locals in Malta will have the opportunity to compete and put Malta on the World Ski sprint map. Lakes fitness studios are holding a joint Open 1k ski erg sprint, with age group categories in which all are welcome to take part and these results will be officially authenticated and posted in the world ski event. Veteran Ken Lake, a fitness con- sultant and an avid racer in Con- cept 2 indoor rowing events, is the current world record holder for both the 60's men's 500 and 1k Ski Erg categories would like to see locals in as many diverse age categories have a go this year. Some training can be organised beforehand for those who have never tried the machine before. Further information about the event can be found by contacting Lakes studios on +356 79301038 or +356 21228002 or e-mail: lakes@maltanet.net Banif F.C. impresses in Serbia FOLLOWING their victory in the local Banka Cup earlier this year, Banif Bank's men's football team participated in the international Champions Bank tournament in Belgrade, Serbia. A string of solid performances saw them qualify from the group stage before being edged out by a Croatian side GENERALI PBZ in a nail-biting knockout match. In its second edition, the Cham- pions Bank tournament was con- tested by 40 teams hailing from Italy, Germany, France, and Egypt, to name a few. The Serbian Na- tional Team's training complex, The Sportski Centar Stara Pazova provided the venue for a football festival spread over three days. Legendary referee Pierluigi Colli- na, who officiated the 1999 UEFA Champions League Final and 2002 World Cup Final, was a special guest for the event along with cur- rent Serie A referees Andrea Stefani and Andrea De Marco and veteran Italian star Daniele Massaro. "We are extremely happy with our performance and were very close to advancing further in the competition," said team coach Kurt Polidano. "This year we had a very strong squad made up of colleagues from all across the Bank, with a good mix of experienced players and young talent. Teamwork has always been one our greatest strengths, both in the office and on the pitch, and with every experience we keep getting more coordinated and syn- chronised.
