DECEMBER 10 A Century with Edith Piaf The Strada Stretta Concept in collaboration with the French Embassy - Cultural Section and Valletta 2018 Foundation, under the artistic direction of Giuseppe Schembri Bonaci, present an evening dedicated to Édith Piaf to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of her birth, at Loop Bar, Strait Street, Valletta from 20:00. Mezzo-soprano Clare Ghigo accompanied by accordionist Yuri Charyguine, will be performing a number of great classics by Édith Piaf, throughout the evening. DECEMBER 10, 13 Cavalleria Rusticana/Pagliacci Live screening of the Royal Opera House, London production of the two operas at Eden Cinemas, St Julian's at 19:15 on December 10 and 15:00 on December 13. These two short Italian operas are regarded as composers' masterpiece and are brought together in a new staging by award-winning director Damiano Michieletto, who sets both operas in a poverty stricken village in 1980s southern Italy, where the Mafia has a hold. The Royal Opera's Music Director Antonio Pappano condusts a cast that includes charismatic Dutch soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek, exciting Italian soprano Carmen Giannattasio and the thrilling latvian tenor Aleksandrs Antonenko.
